i am looking to buy a dvd writer for my pc everytime i get one from amazon it appears to be the wrong type . most of them are SATA dvds what i am seeking is the 4 pin power plug connection with the long id lead point connection,but i have appeared to of oredered dvd writers with slightly different power points,no good for my pc. any help here?

Colour and layout may vary obviously. If so then just get a SATA data cable and power adapter (if there isn't one of each supplied with the drive)

But as above, if you're expecting the drive to fix an existing burning problem, you might end up disappointed.
does the external just plugs into the back of the pc?
Most just use USB, some need a power supply too.
Without labouring the point, what's wrong with your current DVD drive?

Although you can get SATA to IDE data adaptors they can be iffy in operation, and in my experience, may not work at all with DVD drives.
If your computer has SATA connections get a SATA drive and use a power adaptor.
If your computer doesn't have any SATA connections then shell out a bit extra to get an IDE internal drive (or USB external drive), rather than messing about with a data adaptor.
That's my advice.
Always research the model number exactly to make absolutely sure it's an IDE (PATA) one.
