The Perks of Being a Wallflower

God, I hope Emma Watson's smugness doesn't ruin this for me.

It's one of my favourite books. I wouldn't usually be looking forward to an adaptation, but with Stephen Chbosky writing and directing, I have a glimmer of hope. I'm guessing the soundtrack will be pretty special too.

I think the character of Sam has been so miscast.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing this. I'm thinking of reading the book before seeing the film. :)

Sifter22 10-01-2012 13:52

Never read the book but always seemed quite interesting. Will most likely go watch the film

mimicole 03-02-2012 15:55

My copy of the book arrived yesterday. I'm only about 10 pages in but I'm enjoying it so far.

When is the film released?

SourCherry 03-02-2012 16:40

The book is one of my favourites. I'm nervous for this film.

It's got a 2012 release, but no specific UK date yet.

RaptureRider 04-02-2012 06:23

I'd never heard of the book until I was browsing through IMDB and saw the title in Logan Lerman's filmography. I ended up heading out and picking up a copy of the book and really enjoying it. I just wish they would hurry up and release the damn trailer.

Me too.

Lenitive 04-02-2012 22:26

Aren't they still searching for a distributor?

mimicole 25-07-2012 17:08

The film's UK release is the 3rd October.

Hello. 24-08-2012 19:42

There have been several screenings of Perks now, and its getting rave reviews. However, the critics haven't released official reviews yet, so I wouldn't take that 100%.

Sounds like good news, though. The book is my absolute favourite.

I'm worried about Emma Watson's casting though, I really am. I like her as Hermione, but shes nothing like what I imagined for Sam, and the trailer hasn't pulled me in. Ezra Miller is completely different to the Patrick I imagined too actually. But Logan as Charlie? Perfect.

Fear of Fours 25-08-2012 11:15

Loved the book, can't wait for the film.

nk_88 26-08-2012 20:21

I don't know why but I really wasn't THAT impressed with the book. I found Charlie to be a bit pathetic, whiny and at times incredibly naive. I just guess he was extremely innocent...

BUT I will be checking out this movie, it does have promise since Chbosky is writing and directing, maybe it'll change my perspective.

mimicole 11-09-2012 14:46

The film is to be released on the 3rd of October at my local Odeon. I enjoyed the book so I'm looking forward to seeing it played out on screen.

mimicole 30-09-2012 12:23

I'm hoping to see this on Wednesday. Will anyone else be seeing the film?

mangomoon 30-09-2012 16:34

Going to see this tonight, my ODEON are doing a special charity showing.

Fear of Fours 30-09-2012 16:35

It currently has a 84% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

rachymac 30-09-2012 19:21

I will hopefully be going to see this on Friday - it's my favourite book, amd I have read several reviews from preview screenings which say it's stayed really true to the book (which makes sense, with Stephen Chbosky directing). Not sure about Emma Watson as Sam, but I think she could really surprise a lot of people. I think Ezra Miller is going to be pretty much perfect casting for Patrick, though!

Semierotic 30-09-2012 20:17

I read the book after an American girlfriend said it was one of her favourites. Upon finishing it I politely said you probably had to be a teenager to fully appreciate it.

mangomoon 30-09-2012 21:38

Just got back from seeing it and it was one of the best films I have ever seen... really need to get the soundtrack!

little-monster 01-10-2012 18:47

Is this worth seeing? Emma Watson is perhaps one of today's most wooden actresses around, it's because of this I am wary of seeing this. Whether she is worth 20 million or not from Harry potter, she's awful.

tracystapes 01-10-2012 21:46

Heard good reviews so far. want to see this :)

Definitely worth seeing even if you don't like Emma Watson. Logan and Ezra are both great actors.

mimicole 03-10-2012 13:10

A friend and I will be seeing this later on. :) I'm looking forward to it.

tracystapes 03-10-2012 15:21

Is Aunt Helen in the movie? (she's at the tail end of the cast list on IMDB. Considering her impact is big on the character I was surprised if it were a small role).

mimicole 03-10-2012 19:38

I saw this today with a friend. I wasn't prepared for this, but I cried in parts. I very rarely cry at films or TV, but it got me a few times.

I really enjoyed it and would see it again. We missed the beginning, though probably only about 5 or 10 minutes. We thought that we had timed it perfectly.

It has a great soundtrack too! I still have "Heroes" by David Bowie in my head.

She is in flashbacks.

I had read the book beforehand but I totally forgot that

Spoiler

That's a big plot line to forget about!
