Poor Carrie, she saved Brody's kids from being partial orphans, aswell as saving the vice president (even if he is a rather unlikeable guy - I'm sure he's got a family who love him), Estes & all those other people; the least Brody could do is let her know how clever she is for figuring things out. She's a heroine & should be feeling good about her self, not so awful that she's letting doctors electrocute her brain.
BTW, how did Brody get back out of that building with the vest on without setting off the alarms....? |
Re the woman who Walker kidnapped, I don't think people who are affluent enough to live in an apartment like that, go to bingo; it would've been more realistic if he'd got in to her car outside a theatre.

Not sure why people are moaning about the end of homeland, its been renewed for a second season so people cant expect it to all be resolved. Its been set up nicely for season 2.

The actual cliffhanger used (the phone call in the underpass) leaves the door open to future plots without upsetting everyone that stuck with this through the first series. Personally, I hate it when a series ends on a massive cliffhanger (especially if a second series isn't commissioned! ) |
Does anyone know what the earlier story line about the house near the airport was for? Was that just a decoy to pot of the CIA? Letting them know Tom was alive and distracting them from Brody?
Then there was the hookers and the expensive necklace story line. Did I miss how that was connected to the main story? I remember something about Nasir's body guard being behind it, but it still didn't seem to connect to the rest of the story. A couple of seconds of dialogue on those topics could have cleared the whole thing up! |

Looking back over the whole series, here are a few points and queries:
1. So who is the mole then? 2. What was the Aileen plot all about then? Was that a complete red herring thrown by Nazir to get the CIA thinking the 'chatter' about Marine 1 and Marine 2 was related to the president's helicopters (which landed at the airport Aileen's house overlooked from the roof), rather than Brody and Walker? 3. I have to admit knowing Brody is appearing in Season 2 totally took away the tension of the suicide bombing stuff 4. Just how will Carrie fit into season 2, now she no longer works for the CIA? 5. Does Brody's daughter now think he is a terrorist? 6. What was Walker's backstory? I.e. how was he also converted to join the cause and what was going on when Brody was beating him to a pulp (thinking he had killed him). Was Walker already converted at this point and playing dead? Or will we never hear anymore about this slightly more unbelievable plot strand. Regards to people being a bit dissapointed by the finale, its not 24 - it is a pretty different show, and not everything ends in an explosion or happy ending. |
The thing that bothered me most about the finale, and I'm sure that one of you can explain it for me, was the business with the chalk marks.
I thought that Walker and Brody had no communication with each other and didnt even know what the other was supposed to contribute to this plot. Brody didnt even know that Walker was alive. Yet we can assume, based on Brody going straight to meet Walker when he saw the second chalkmark, that the media card was left there for Walker to collect. Also, why, when Walker was dead, didn't Brody get the media card off of him? |
My understanding was that Abu Nazir had two original plans.
1. One was for Walker to use the roof of the house near the airport to fire at Marine One. Hence the storyline concerning the house. Aileen's capture revealed to us and the CIA that Walker was still alive. 2. Brody's task was probably to use his status as a 'war hero' to get close to politicians and carry out an assassination that way. Once plan 1 was discovered, the plans had to change. Brody had learnt that Walker was alive and vowed not to help Abu Nazir. Then he was kidnapped in the supermarket car park and reminded of his commitment. I think at that time, the new plan for Brody and Walker to work together was communicated and they would have been aware of each other's involvement from that point, hence the chalk marks as a means of communication. |
I too was a touch underwhelmed, probably because I'd read it was a great finale.
I did wonder when they showed the video Brody did at the start was a bit of a clever red herring and he was still working to flush out a mole. (i.e. The video was recorded to satisfy the terrorist network so they could send it to the media after the attack). But obviously not! Would have been interesting if he had let out a prayer before the jacket failed to explode! Walker ruffling the old ladies hair made me chuckle for some reason. I really don't want the Brody storyline to drag out too much though. At the moment I find Brody is still likeable, be interesting to see what happens next series, will it focus on him going deeper into his role, or will his daughter family etc start to affect him. |

I've been a keen reader of this thread, having watched at US pace. I do enjoy reading others views and ideas, and more so after a period when I've moved onto other shows and whilst not forgetting this show, it not being my main show to focus on right now.
I thought the finale was great, and just the right length, clearing up enough story lines to satisfy and conclude season 1, whilst leaving doors open for season 2 to build upon and create new stories. I can't see Homeland going beyond 3 seasons at the very most, as I fear that it would become stale and repetative as such. Certainly with the Brody storyline, but if they conclude his story and introduce another, it becomes the new "24" as such. I do think we have a shelf life with this series. Credit for the castintg though, it was inspired all over and I'm so glad that it got the recognition not only in the US, but also seemingly all over the world. Some times the best shows simply don't break, world wide. |

In the absence of any other explanation I assumed that, the also unexplained in the show, plan was that Brody goes boom and Walker releases Brodys confession to the media. I guess that an alternative could be that someone else was supposed to pick up the media card, maybe the mole, and that Brody was going to meet Walker anyway, even though it was never explained that either of them knew what the other was meant to be doing. |

Now he is dead, I don't think we will ever know and I don't think the writers ever had much interest in explaining it. |

So not having watched all the episodes but i saw the finale, Brody wants to kill the vice president and defence secretary for them ordering the drone attack that killed Abu Nazir's son and all those children, right?

I guess there's lots of things that can happen.
For one thing I can see more involvement in the story from Estes (David Harewood) now that Saul has rumbled his role in things. |
