Ken Dodd?

Does he still doing anything now? Haven't heard of him for a while.

Yes, still going strong. Tour dates here.

Phoenix Lazarus 23-01-2013 22:42

I've just caught a recent photo of him on Google, and he looks a bit rough now!

hatpeg 23-01-2013 22:52

I spoke to him last summer, looking quite frail now, but his mind is still razor sharp.
Nice man and very friendly - a true legend.

Ollie_h19 23-01-2013 23:07

Tours constantly and does gigs that last around 5-6 hours.

realwales 23-01-2013 23:19

I know someone who was at one of his shows late last year. The second half didn't even begin until gone 11pm. As has been said, he is quite frail now, and doesn't tour as much as he used to, but when he does, they go on for as long as ever!

sheila_p 23-01-2013 23:44

I saw him live last month.

He had a terrible chest, very wheezy.

Having said that, he performed for about three hours and finished at 1:10 am!

Now?

Doddy will perform 'til he drops. His stamina is awesome.

Saw one once, never again, almost 7 hours

Sad to say, Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead:D

Phoenix Lazarus 24-01-2013 22:31

Interesting old clip of him from 1975, here. A bit cringey when that woman in just a bikini came on, at the five minute mark-and the joke at 11.10, that a man's told a woman Gary Glitter's his brother, to impress her, now looks very outdated!

It's the end of January, he's probably busy doing his tax return :D

Phoenix Lazarus 25-01-2013 14:11

I've read he saves money by, for Diddymen in his shows, getting drama kids to play them for free.

konebyvax 25-01-2013 18:18

IIRC he (more accurately his barrister) more or less hinted during his trial that he was so ill he could die at any time. How long ago is that now? :D

Bungitin 25-01-2013 19:06

Ken Dodd probably tutored his barrister with some material.

:)

Was he ever a sex symbol? He is 85 after all.

Eddie Badger 25-01-2013 19:46

He claimed he didn't pay money to the Inland Revenue because he lived on the coast :)

7 Hours!

Crikey, OK, one gets their money's worth, but I'd be gagging for a pee, pint and a sarnie halfway through.

I remember a comedian being asked about something which would never happen in show biz. He replied "Ken Dodd coming off a stage the same day he got on it."

Bungitin 25-01-2013 20:03

Wonder if the court case ended on time (on a daily basis).

That was twenty three years ago, when Doddy was sixty-two.

You can just imagine his QC: 'Behold, a man in the decline of life. Mr Dodd is now in his early sixties. At this age, in his condition, he is likely to pass away at some point during the next thirty-five years!'

Perhaps 'frail' was a better word than 'rough.'

The barrister was the late George Carmen QC, who was famous for that sort of thing. Essentially, his line of defence to the jury during the trial was: "Yes, he's guilty of tax offences, but don't you just love him?" It worked!
