Does Rhianna write her own songs?

Currently listening to 'Shine Bright Like a Diamond' just 20 mins after another song by her!

Never known an artist to release song after song after song without having any real break for the last 5 years!

She must be a great song writer, cough!

Benllech 31-01-2013 20:08

She has an entire team that literally dictates everything she does, she is mainly the face of it all, oh and the auto-tuned voice.

Zack06 31-01-2013 20:12

She does the occasional co-write. But mostly no. When she wants to start a new album, songwriters will be notified, and they will submit stuff for her project, she then chooses what she likes, records the song (usually with the songwriter's vocals still on the track to cover up her true ability, *cough*Sia on Diamonds*cough*) and then picks a final number to go on the album....

She has like the best team ever as they manage to get all these hits that were meant for other artists for her own album. But she's great at what she does and she's become a decent enough live singer now.

Zone_Out 31-01-2013 20:15

tbh really idc who writes a song if i like it i like it that`s all that matters

sjp07 31-01-2013 20:25

I think she's the lead writer on Birthday Cake or Cake or whatever its called. As that song will show you, she's a lyrical genius.

Lol just kidding, but she has made a lot of people a lot of money. She has the best team in the business it would seem.

thelifeofbrian 31-01-2013 20:33

This describes her "writing" process quite well - http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/...ake-a-hit-song

popprincess5678 31-01-2013 20:41

Thats why I cringe when she sings about sex all the time, such a personal topic and its not even her writing it. I do think shes a wonderful pop star though, I don't actually care who is writing the songs the majority of the time.

SexiRokStarr 31-01-2013 20:43

She co-writes most of her stuff.

MrMeatAndPotato 31-01-2013 20:43

Does she bollox...

Same applies for Britney Spears. Both puppets.

Haha at the coughing part.

So yeah basically it's just her high profile name that rakes the money in, she does a bit of singing over the top and that's it!!

HandsClean 01-02-2013 00:45

She doesn't write many of her songs at all. But to be honest even if she was a great song writer we wouldn't really be able to find out until her popularity fades.

Thanks for the link, was a very interesting read. I knew most of the production side as I worked in it (in a very minor way, and not with stars), but I didnt know about the radio stuff.

Its amazing really when you think about it, she does nothing but picks songs she likes, and sometimes sort of sings on them, and then goes around singing them on shows and the radio.

I know it shouldnt, but I always feel the song is fake when I hear them. Take most of the garbage in the charts today, and a lot of it sounds like its just a production line of songs pumped out in order to make money. The odd single here and there is good, but most of the time its trash. Yet the "star" is seen as some sort of artists and visionary.

Its a double shame as lots of artists and bands do write there own stuff, yet they have no chance to compete when you trash stars like "Rihanna" simply have millions upon millions to push into songs.

SuperAPJ 01-02-2013 02:35

She may have added the odd "oh" or "baby" to her tracks, thus securing a songwriting credit!

Ryan11 01-02-2013 08:22

Who cares if she doesn't? I'm so sick of everyone here.

Yep, just like Britney. Although hard core Rhianna fans HATE when you bring that up.

Hav_mor91 01-02-2013 11:12

Admittedly no (although Rated R ironically her best and the one in which she had most input) but other than that not in the slightest she is a popstar a face that sells a product and someone to shake her ass half naked up on stage and bring home the Dollar.

That article was talking about her recording Loud and ironically some of the demos are out there so you can see how little she adds to the track. The "na na na" in S&M isn't even her voice....

Victoria Sponge 01-02-2013 12:25

I love all of her songs. Or the songs she performs. Or whatever. She can't survive without them, they can't survive without the likes of her. Everybody's happy.

They aren't no where near as bad as Beyonce fans though when you bring her ''writing credits'' up ;)

Beyonce fans are the most defensive I have ever come across. Its actually quite scary how far some of them go just to defend her from criticism.

At the end of the day though who cares if an artist has songs written for them? its such snobbery to take away from an artist just because they may not write their own material. Half, if not all, the songs Elvis sung were not his own! did that stop him from being an incredible artist? no it did not. So my advice, get over it!! :p

esfa 01-02-2013 13:32

she's written more than Elvis.
;)

Yes. Because he wasn't an artist. He was a performer. Just like dancers who aren't choreographers are performers and not artists. It's someone else's work. The only reason actors get a pass is because they have to become someone else in their own interpretation. Most of the time a director can't tell you exactly how to be someone.

Elvis was an artist. Is regarded as an artist and is the only artist in history to be in four different hall of fames. Which are for ''artists''.
