How do you pronounce it :o

Is it 'Al-ay-a May'?

Not trying to be rude, I've just not seen the name before. I didn't know how to pronounce Una's daughters name, Aoife, at first either.

Camino 20-05-2013 15:17

congrats to the lovely couple

lolly-licker 20-05-2013 15:31

dondfan998 20-05-2013 15:33

Exactly what I came into the thread to ask. I have no idea how to pronounce it :o

Lovely name - just goes to show that you can call your child an unusual name without choosing something odd or strange.

shelleyj89 20-05-2013 16:15

Congrats to them. Lovely name.

That's how I would pronounce it. Logically it's either that or A-lie-a (as in lie rather than lay) but I would assume it's 'lay' as it creates a much softer, prettier sound.

Could be wrong though!

This link has a good description of how to pronounce it.

So it's pronounced a-liar? When I first saw the name written down, I assumed it would be pronounced a-layer. Although this is coming from someone who read Harry Potter for the first time and thought Hermione was pronounced Her-Me-Own :o

You too?! Makes me feel a bit better. Even now when I see it written down, I pronounce it Her-me-own in my head :o I kept thinking what a stupid name it was when I was reading the first book.

Thank you, I did think it was either that or an alternate spelling of Aaliyah.

This made me laugh, not at you for pronouncing it wrong, but for thinking you were alone :)

Glad it wasn't just me. My son is called Mekai "meh-khi" & people tend to mispronounce it, so I always try to get other peoples names right.

big brother 9 20-05-2013 19:33

Sez_babe 20-05-2013 19:41

Congratulations to them :) They seem like a lovely couple. Love the name!

Leicester_Hunk 20-05-2013 20:17

Give over! Why can't celebs call their kids something normal like Valerie or Susan? ;)

lea_uk 20-05-2013 20:20

I love the name. Different isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Congratulations to them.

Demonicrodent 20-05-2013 20:51
