I look at my multiroom sub as 10 for the recording rights which Sky are obliged...

At a 9-11 ft distance 4k would be distinguishable from HD on the 65" screen the op demoed, no need for superior eyesight....

TV's that support USB playback will mostly play Mp4 H.246, Mpeg 1 & 2, Divx and mkv.

Try playing a selection of files, the TV will either play them or not.
