I have an IPhone 5 on EE - with a backup SIM for 3. LTE is supported with both these networks with this phone - but with the speeds of 3's 3G DC-HSPDA masts makes little difference with them.

Smartphones will also use any WiFi SSIDs they can presently detect to help...

GPS accuracy is nothing to do with 3, 3G or 4G! The GPS chip is in the iPhone itself - on mine I do not think is has EVER been as far out as you describe!
