The phone is normally tied to a new version of Android. The new version of Android was delayed for the Nexus 5 as Google tried to circumvent manufacturers being terribly slow with updates.

Google I/O is the end of June (its late this year), which is when new product is normally available. I am hoping for a release of a new phone. :D But the Nexus 5 is still excellent value.
