I make the ave audience 3.892m and ave share 39.68

Thank you. :) Not too bad at all, actually higher than what I expected really.

A shade under 4m on the hottest day of the year so far is impressive.

Impressive HD figures for Top Gear. 840,000 out of 5.14m.

That's one in six viewers!! And the timeshift figures usually increase more for HD.

Even better ratio than last week's Canadian Grand Prix.

Back in the early days of BBC HD when it was basically pay TV only, the three most requested BBC programmes to switch to HD were Top Gear, Doctor Who and F1.

They seem to be the best performers too.

Demographic Information for the terrestrial channels on Friday/Saturday 24/25th June: http://i52.tinypic.com/29qaxbn.jpg

    A few things I noticed:

    - Wimbledon tennis is one sport which tends to skew towards females (or 50/50). Something like the Andy Murray match, which you'd have perhaps expected more males to be watching, actually had more female viewers.
    - Total Wipeout had the best 16-34 audience out of BBC1's Saturday lineup, despite having the lowest gross figure.
    - The Kennedys and Castle skew quite similarly, apart from one key difference which is The Kennedys has a much higher ABC1-skew.
    - Speaking of ABC1-skews, Eddie Stobart's 27% for that episode is the lowest I've seen for a primetime programme and rivals Jeremy Kyle in those stakes. Havnig said that, the previous week it had a 32% ABC1-skew (still low) but not as bad as that episode which was probably dented by ABC1s transferring to the tennis.
    - Odd One In, Penn & Teller and The Marriage Ref were all up in the 16-34s week-on-week.
    - Channel 4's Friday 9pm lineup skews very young and 8 Out of 10 Cats performed strongly in that demo. Even King Of... which has had very poor gross numbers, had a decent 16-34 audience, higher than Alan Carr's in fact.

very interesting as always. The 16-34 and ABC1s of The Marriage Ref would suggest its not going to get axed or moved and may well even get recommisioned if it holds those figures for the rest of the run.

I don't know about a recommission, as a 3.5m programme with an average skew, would have a similar 16-34 number - surely that's preferrable for ITV (like Odd One In) than something like The Marriage Ref which has very poor gross numbers? But I agree, they'll probably stick with it for the 7 episodes this series rather than pulling it from the schedules, simply due to the pretty decent 16-34 figures.

By doing some number crunching, the amount of viewers watching tv last night in primetime.

    7.00-8.00 17.98m
    8.00-9.00 22.80m
    9.00-10.00 22.97m
    10.00-11.00 20.00m

So warm weather does affect tv ratings to some extent, especially early evening. From 8.00-10.00 there does seem to be a dedicated core tv audience. Top Gear rated well as did Countryfile, BBC (1-4) had a 10m plus audience in the 8.00-9.00pm hour, with 4 very different shows appealing to many viewers.

true but the 47% ABC1s must also be high for ITV1 (as good as Lewis % wise ?)

Yeah, it's high for an ITV1 programme - about the same as shows like Vera/Lewis. Quite surprising really, I was expecting its audience to be made of C2DEs like Jeremy Kyle's. But even with its skews, a 3.5m programme with an average skew of 18% 16-34s and 35% ABC1s would result in similar demo numbers to The Marriage Ref, and like I said in my previous post surely that'd be better than a show in primetime only getting 2.4m/11% - albeit with pretty good skews. You can see from those demos that both Odd One In and Marriage Ref probably generate similar ad revenue as they have similar demo numbers but it's preferrable IMO to have a show getting 3.5m with those demo numbers than 2.5m. Now if The Marriage Ref itself was getting ~3.5m with those skews, it'd be a different story.

Its interesting because for years Ch4 were the experts at these type of shows attracting 16-34 ABC1's whilst ITV had things like Stars In Their Eyes.

When you look at shows like Paul O'Grady (ok, I know this one was up against the tennis climax) and compare that to the Saturday night line up, you wonder whether ITV will axe POG instead?

btw, and this is me being cheeky :p, hoes does the POG demo compare to Strictly Come Dancing? If he was to become host would there be a good match? I'd guess he would do ok with the age profile, but the ABC1's might not be in sync.

When you put that into my '18 to 49' chart for the week:

    18 to 49
    16.0 - The Apprentice (7.62m - BBC1)
    8.8 - Wimbledon (6.45m - BBC1)
    7.4 - Luther (5.23m - BBC1)
    6.6 - Traffic Cops (4.21m - BBC1)
    6.4 - Penn and Teller: Fool Us (3.58m - ITV1)
    5.9 - In With the Flyns (3.61m - BBC1)
    5.7 - The Apprentice: You're Fired (2.97m - BBC2)
    5.7 - The Day the Earth Stood Still (2.98m - C4)
    5.5 - Casualty (5.16m - BBC1)
    5.4 - Scott & Bailey (5.01m - ITV1)
    5.4 - Four of a Kind (4.18m - ITV1)
    5.3 - Embarrassing Fat Bodies (2.56m - C4)

It show how well Penn and Teller is doing and why it will get recommissioned as it is doing well in the key demographic and winning in fact on Saturday night's - the only ITV1 show to do so, Total Wipeout wins versus Odd One In (4.7 vs 4.3) and Casualty wins versus The Marriage Ref (5.5 vs 4.5)

Thanks for the figures by the way, informative as always. :)

Here's Strictly Come Dancing's demos from last year's final: http://i54.tinypic.com/23uu91v.jpg

Age-wise both SCD and PoG Live skew similarly, but of course SCD has a much higher ABC1 skew (about 20% higher). I doubt PoG potentially hosting it would be much of an issue though.

    TG4 ace Wimbledon coverage
    Sunday, June 26, 2011
TG4’s decision to show Wimbledon was justified in grand style last week as hundreds of thousands tuned in to watch Ireland’s Conor Niland’s epic effort to make it past the first round.

A total of 350,000 people tuned in at some point during the match, and the average audience between 5.30pm and 6.15pm was 130,000, making TG4 the most popular channel after RTE One. The end of the match peaked at 170,000 viewers.

TG4 has been covering Wimbledon since 2005. In the past, audiences have peaked at 100,000 viewers

some news of TG4 (the Irish language channel) ratings last week

Looks like aussie Bernard Tomic cruised through his fourth round match against Belgian player Xavier Malisse this afternoon, winning in three straight sets. Since he was first on court, Seven would have been able to cover the whole thing live on 7TWO in a prime 9pm timeslot. That could be a high rater in digital terms, with more of the same on Wednesday.

Nine will be spitting feathers that the year they drop the tournament a young aussie makes it to the quarter finals!

i'd like it in a monday, winter slot; i'd say that it appeals to many corrie fans as it includes many past actors

Solid return for Top Gear, given the weather conditions. Certainly the share is superb - and we know its the sort of show that benefits from timeshift and iPlayer in those circumstances, too. Awful for Popstar to Operastar which is following the SYTYCD route - dismal numbers for a Sunday 8pm slot, and humbled by the resilience of The Royal and Scott and Bailey either side of it.

Good to see the demos looking good for Penn and Teller - easily the best new Saturday night show in a good while and hopefully that strong young audience can win it a return. I'm sure it'd do better in a stronger overall schedule. I suspect ITV wish they'd given it that Britain's Got Talent sandwich now.

You may be thinking 'what a pointless post', but actually because of BARB's '6 week amendment rule' we now have a total BBC figure for The Royal Wedding of 13.95m. So not a totally pointless update!

Stunning timeshift for the final episode of Fringe on Sky1.

    A massive 326% uplift from 165,775 to 508,000.

    This must be a record?

It's likely that Scott & Bailey will be transferred to Mondays for its next series because Sundays next year looks full on ITV1: DOI/WAH in Jan-March, Lewis/Vera/Titanic in April/May, Euro 2012 in June, not gonna put it in July/Aug partly against Olympics, Downton/IAC in September-Dec. With a fast turnaround, they could get it on air in Spring next year, but that would mean filming from this October/November- could scripts written by one person be ready by then? Otherwise, it'd probably have to air on Mondays in Autumn 2012.
Ouch... Silent Witness really doesn't repeat well.
This is why the BBC repeats New Tricks so often. In terms of one-hour dramas, pretty much only New Tricks repeats well. Even a third showing of a NT episode would've rated at least half a million better than what SW had last night. George Gently repeats well too, which is 1.5 hours in duration, I suppose they could've aired that last night - I can't remember if they've repeated it this year at all.
