Another glorious day here by the looks of it, BBQ day yesterday and today it seems.
Sun was out bright and early again.
This hour is a pain, brekki time all ready.:D
Morning Flora.:)
Morning Arte.:)
That food sounds lovely, love food from different countries.
Morning Balders.:)
Morning SR.:)
You need one of those hanging bird feeders, from a tree or fence, or a free standing one like a metal frame with arms to put some tasty suet treats, seed or meal worms, they love them.
Domn't put food on the ground then the seagulls won't come down.
Blackbirds mainly eat worms and that, i don't see them on my feeders, i've got about 5.
Get loads of starlings but can't do much about that.
Morning EddyBee.:)
Morning Halla.:)
That reminds me, F1, yep.
Morning Honey.:)
When anything is hungry it will take anything of the right size.
A seagulls jaws are similar to a snakes, they just open and take whatever it is.
I've seen one swallow a massive plaice and that really surprised me, was watching some fishing boats unloading.
It s surprising because when you pick up a seagull they feel very light so they must be able to carry more than their own weight.
We had a briliiant garden growing up. then when we left home it started to be too much work for Mr and Mrs Balders so they downsized about 3 times til ending up in flat but missing garden got a 2 bed. Then Mr Balders has the start of his trouble and couldn't do any gardening at all.:(
Got to start gettng some greenery and plants in the backyard area
not only the racket have you seen the size of some of them:eek:
We are having a mixedgrill/fry up mix today
You could do what i do and thats have most of your tree's plants etc in tubs, i get different sizes but the 50 to 80 ltr with handles would be fine, get John Innis No.3 and some course grit and 3/4 fill the tubs, but some broken pottery or pieces of stone in the bottom, then grit for a couple of inches as drainage is so important, the tubs i get have drainage holes already in them.
These are super, i use some 50ltr and some bigger, they are great for the price, you can of course move them round as you want.
You can get fruit tree's Toms, peppers, chillies, flowers, have a great back yard. http://www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/acatalog/Extra_Large_Plant_Pots.html
I'm just waiting for 3 more to be delivered next week, the POT38 size.
Yes we had loads of feeders at our old house and I suppose I will be ok if its just seed but I would be wary about suet treats, used to get those balls of fat but the birds arent the tidiest eaters and you always get a certain amount on the ground so wont risk it just in case.
I get the Suet blocks, the suet pellets and the meal worms, mine are hung under the Pergola so the Seagulls wouldn't see anything anyway.
They usually fly down if you have a big area and they see a load of bread etc and they can come in to land, they need landing and take off space.:D

The power of the seagull is probably in it's wings, but seagulls by a fishing port are usually very big and strong.
Our seagulls could land and take off on a postage stamp if it had spaghetti bolognaise on it.

We 'll start by having a good clear out and getting rid of the old trestles and stuff, back to the bare walls. Then get some sizes and have a little mess about on the CAD to get some layout ideas:cool:

They attack and steal pasties and stuff out of peoples hands down in the town centre, right next to beach and river
The position is pretty important, most plants etc like full sun for all or most of the day.
But have them in tubs with handles and they can be moved about, also big 50ltr tubs hold ware longer, small ones dry out too quick in the sun.
The big well organised birds are very used to doing hit and run attacks, they soon learn.:D

They should be fine just now without it, it hasn't been a hard winter, & they become lazy & reliant on 'fast food' that people provide them with.

I stopped the seed because that which got dropped by the birds rooting through for what they wanted all grew, i had all the seeds growing, a heck of a job to get the growth out.
Took me days, never again.
The Suet/Seed blocks are fine, i cut them into 3 pieces to put in a feeder, the half coconuts filled with fat goes down well.
Afternoon all, interesting discussion on Seagulls, i see some everyday i am in Birmingham, which is as far from the Sea as you can get just about lol They are huge, especially close-up (and they do come right close to you!) and tower over the pigeons, making them look small in comparison, one day last week there were more Gulls then Pigeons on the ground !!!

They're becoming quite urban these days.....I blame it all on fast food joints & people dropping food at their bloody feet!

Crikey didnt realise they came in land so far
It has been a beautiful day. We had a lovely run/amble, then 17 of us went back to Tasso and Olga's for lunch,
We had a "Popular Ukranian Soup" which had a base of ham and potatoes and was very tasty. Then there were various caviares, Russian salads and dips, followed by BBQ'd meats and sausage. For dessert, there was yoghurt with candied Quinces, an apple pie, strawberries and other fruits.
There were Vodka shots, beers and wines too and Ukranian "champagne".
A couple of Greek National parades passed beneath their balcony. The schools drill the kids for a long time beforehand but I don't know why they bother as they are never remotely in step..:p Typical Greeks, all doing their own thing and refusing to be coralled or ordered around - and I say this with great fondness.:)

:D You missed out Walter Sparrow.
And Steven Seagull.

oh bugger schoolboy error:(
He http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0817112/
He used to crop up in all sorts of things, one of those actors where you know the face but not necessarily the name
