I was deliciously frightened by The Ring - the way that girl comes out of the TV/Well and does that jerky walking thing with her hair hanging over her face.....the brief look you get at the dead faces of the victims and their expressions gives me the shivers.
Nightmare on Elm Street when it first came out was a brilliant scare fest.
Not sure if it's horrow film as such but I remember seeing a terribly violent flick with my then fiance in 1983 called 'Class of 1984' and it really upset me so much that I burst into tears during the closing credits....I don't go in for gore or graphic violence, I much prefer the implied suspense type genre like you get in those old Night Gallery/Evil Touch or Tales of the Unexpected shows. My own imagination is vivid enough to scare the heck out of me
