Having recently taken the plunge and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I found it frustrating that a number of News sites require Flash to view their videos.
Adobe of course don't support Flash on Android, however Computer Active Magazine provided a solution http:/www.snipca.com/8052 you must change security settings to allow installation from unknown sources however.

The obvious place to go to download the Flash apk (install package) is Adobe's website.

Chrome won't support flash even if you install it, so you'll also need another browser; I use Firefox, available on Google Play.
Can we use Firefox and still keep Chrome on the tablet?
Your son needs to brush up on his history ....
These sites are likely just older ones designed in the days when flash was the way to go. As a result, the sites will just not work on the iPad.
There's one of the educational sites that I use for my youngest, works fine with Firefox on my Nexus 7, just fails completely on my iPhone 4S.
Sure, you can run as many browsers in parallel as you want on Android. Its just another application
useful for the odd site that has a non flash iPad version but doesn't know about chrome.
I think he was just generalising.
You sure about that?
My Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with Flash sideloaded works with the stock browser on sites with Flash content ok.
yes.
the stock browser from ICS(?), which is not chrome, worked with flash.
chrome does not. i don't see why it couldn't treat it like any other plugin. but i guess they want a clean break.
What is the stock browser on the Tab 2? dont really use it much as its my sons Tab
What old sites like BBC News you mean?
Was thinking of my Nexus 7, where Chrome is the default browser. I think everything with Android 4.1 onwards has Chrome as default rather than the Android browser, and as others have said, the default browser will use Flash if installed, and Chrome will not.
(Also yes to being able to install Firefox without replacing Chrome)
i think if it was updated to it the default browser wouldn't change although chrome may be installed.
incidentally the android browser is still installed on native JB devices and used for things like in app html rendering. weirdly.
The link posted is from Adobe so is perfectly fine http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/android/11.1.115.27/install_flash_player_ics.apk is where it redirects to.
BBC content works fine on my Galaxy Nexus through Chrome
Through Chrome. How? Chrome doesn't support flash and when I installed it BBC content certainly didn't work.
Yep, I've got Chrome and FF on my android tablet. It runs Android 4.0.4 I've no problem with sites like the beeb.
I know Firefox works with Flash but frankly don't see how BBC flash content works on Chrome. Chrome does not support Flash.
Chrome comes with adobe flash player built in.
nope. not the mobile version.
Exactly. I think the is confusion here.
Flash works fine on Android 4.2.1 but I agree that its not really required any more, just the odd site.
Anyone NOT have flash installed on their main computer?
