Just rereading the whole series and have to say I am enjoying them way more than the films! Totally the reason I went on to bigger books then Roald Dauhl or Jacqueline Wilson!
To answer my own question, it has to be Professor/Potions Master/Defense Against The Dark Arts/Headmaster of Hogwarts Severus Snape! (The only real reason to watch the film was because of Alan Rickman)
Best plot... hummm, just to keep it vague and pick one I would choose... I can't remember as there is far to many thing to remember!
I hope JK Rowling makes another one! I was never pleased with the cheese ending and the fact all 3 of them lived, even Voldemort winning and being at full power would have been interesting!?

I was satisfied with the ending.
Voldemort winning would have been suitable with me even having a view of him in full power, something we never got to see just like never seeing Headmaster Albus Dumbledore at full power.
I think enough people died, to be honest
I loved those chapters where Harry saw Snape's memories and we discovered why Snape did what he did.
As much as people slate JK Rowling I thought she brought everything together really well throughout the whole series. But Snapes story for me was the best bit.
I believe JK Rowling was planning on writing about Dean in Chamber Of Secrets but didn't end up doing it.
It would have been nice to have delved into Dumbledore's past a bit more though - I think if I could ask JK Rowling one thing, it would be to write a book about Dumbledore as a young wizard (not necessarily school-age, more late teens/early twenties).
I agree the ending was incredibly cheesy - if I'm honest I tend to forget that bit ever happened. Just seemed unnecessary and tacked on to the end. I think Voldemort winning the day would have been too depressing for me though (but then I'm a sucker for happy endings )
Dread to imagine the reaction if she had dared killed off Harry or Ron and Hermione.
Too many great characters and plots to pick one. I love them all
I would have liked to see a bit more backstory to a few characters, Neville's parents for example.
Always thought the Slytherins were the most interesting characters generally, especially (but not only) the Malfoys, being survivors as they were. That thing of grown up real life being shades of grey rather than the black and white certainties you see as a child/Gryffindor.
I was always a bit gutted that one of the Weasley twins died (can't actually remember which one tbh) The devastation of being the one that survived always got me right there.
Ron always annoyed the crap out of me, utterly unable to form any thoughts independent of his family or received wisdom, I was always quite irritated that Hermione (a good looking, intelligent girl who should have gone on to better things) ended up stuck with him and his ginger minger genes, breeding more Weasleys.
Loved the fact that JK Rowling outed Dumbledore as gay at some book signing, and the fact that he had had an affair with Grindlewald when they were young. Just about alluded to in the books, once JK had said it you could see the back story, but otherwise completely under the radar.
no because Voldemort chose Harry as "the one" it was stated from the info he heard from the prophacy that it was either Harry or Neville and he assumed it was Harry and so in killing his parents and trying to kill him made him "the one"
The whole point of the prophecy was that Voldemort would mark one boy as his equal.
So, without Voldemort messing with predictions, nobody would've been marked and the prophecy would have been unfulfilled.
Me too. Especially as it happened so close to the end of the books.
I was always more upset about Fred dying than I was about Dobby.
Professors Lockhart and Slughorn were two of my favourite fleeting characters. Hagrid, Dumbledore and McGonagall are my favourite major but not main characters, and Ron is my favourite main
The best plot was Voldemort's origin
The best character was Bellatrix Lestrange
I loved Dumbledore as a character, and he who shall not be named
I agree. Snape's behaviour was absolutely terrible and it's one of the darker aspects of Dumbledore's personality that allowed him to treat Harry the way he did for all those years. Whilst it was understandable, it was not excusable, and I didn't like that Snape was supposedly all forgiven.
relatively poor books, milked for all they were worth - which was a helluva lot.
Shame about the casting in the film though. Gary Oldman is a good actor but he wasn't right as Sirius IMO. He should have been taller, better looking and a bit more charming in a rakish sort of way.
Yeah, Oldman wasn't at all what I imagined Sirius to be like. I thought he'd have a lot darker hair and eyes and the rugged good looks type of thing.
