The Doctor slapping Clara's butt with a towel was definitely one of the greatest moments in the last series. I think he's the first Doctor since Jon Pertwee to give 'a jolly good smacked bottom' (William Hartnell) to a companion.

I guess it was: "But this is the truth, Doctor. You take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons" or something along those lines, but I'm not sure if that was the OPs point?
