Hey,
Recently I joined a drama group called the Purple All Stars. Songs and music that portray a positive message, are sometimes used, a 'Be proud of who you are' kind of thing
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of songs I could try to sing as the group goes on (last week was my first time)
Ones I heard used are:
Something Inside So Strong (about racial oppression but could be used about any minority I guess?)
Proud
Shine
Lean on Me
Do you think these would be appropriate?
Beautiful (Christina Aguliera)
You'll Never Walk Alone (Carousel)
Future Road (The Seekers)
Bridge over Troubled Water (Simon and Garfunkel)
Let me Find Love (Judith Durham)
Here's a link about the group:

My apologies I wasnt sure if this thread should go here or in GD

Just to add (though maybe not to sing, but to give you an idea)
-Who You Are - Jessie J
-Born This Way - Lady Gaga (acoustic I think is better)
-Pearl- Katy Perry (and 'roar', kind of)
-Black & Blue - Paloma Faith (kind of, message of "we all get down sometimes but we'll be okay in the end" type scenario)
Little Mix - Change Your Life
Little Mix - We Are Who We Are
Justin Bieber - Believe
Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now
I like the idea of Born This Way acoustic too (maybe not to sing all of them, but they may be used as background music to a routine or something)
There's tons of acoustic versions of 'born this way' on YouTube (actually sung by Gaga herself, rather than a cover I mean) so maybe you could take inspiration from that? Worth a try!
Good choice
She wrote it for a friend who was struggling with coming out.
Mariah - Hero or Whitney The Greatest Love.
TLC - Unpretty might be an interesting choice too
Janelle Monae - Cold War, Q.U.E.E.N.
Christina Aguilera - Let There Be Love
Coldplay - Don't Let It Break Your Heart
Ellie Goulding - Explosions
Kelis - Brave
Kimbra - Warrior
Nelly Furtado - Spirit Indestructable
And of course all the songs mentioned by the other posters. I chose to just include newer songs. Some of them would suit being sung live, others are just for inspiration, I guess.
christina aguilera - soar
christina aguilera - beautiful
tlc - unpretty
sugababes - ugly
little mix - change your life
macklemore - same love
all very positive
Is Let There be Love the Nat King Cole song?
I'll have to check with the tutor I dont know if she just meant 'be proud' type songs or ones that can fit the theme of disability too (ie you can apply the meaning of the lyrics to that)
Very inspirational song:rolleyes:
Pink - Perfect
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
pink - greatest hits: is a collection of uplifting self believe type songs
Mary Mary - Get Up
Christina Aguilera - The Voice Within
Mariah Carey - Hero
John Grant - Glacier
3 Doors Down - Let Me Be Myself
