Are SES Astra letting broadcasters have a field day with FEC? If they all pushed the boat out like this it would be quite interesting to see where we end up with it all!

42.2Mbps is almost as much as a DVB-S2 TP under normal parameters!

It's not SES's decision at the end of the day, more down to the individual operators. I'd love to think this is done in the interests of the viewer and improved PQ but is all about saving money now the Sky TP's are all migrated over to higher EiRP TP's. The DVB-S2 TP's could run 8PSK 3/4 at nearly 60mb but may run 2/3 if not to push things too much.

The TP power had been fluctuating on TP63 during the FEC testing on this TP so suspect Sky have been using this to simulate various tests on STB's, likely compensating ITV a tad.

I see well I'm sure broadcasters like sky will enjoy the extra bandwidth and cram even more channels in so that they can close tps!

I expect all the PSBs will want to make use to launch HD variations cheaply as I'm sure they plan to long term and eventually turn off SD variations!

    Update

'Olive TV' has now been removed from Sky EPG 593.

Currently showing a blank screen off the EPG on 11.261 H, 27.500, 2/3, DVB-S, QPSK.

Note: EPG data reads as "Olive TV Technical Difficulties".

Hi Digi Man! Im fine, and you? Im not as active on here as I used to be....but I still keep up to date with all the goings on! Yeah it is a shame, the days of plenty of new launches are over it seems...
Yep, not too bad, thanks, I'm also considering not coming on here as much as I usually do as there's not much happening, unfortunately.

Anyway you're not missing much, currently very quiet in terms of new launches, can only see this changing if Sky allow new SD launches via DVB-S2. Infact I boldly predict that if Sky opened a new SD launch queue via DVB-S2 we might actually see a few more HD launches along with the SD ones.

    These are from 2015.

    Pub Channel
Insight Radio (slot & EPG number used for Absolute 70s)
ACBN (slot to be used for Channels TV)
    HD Retail Info
    Alex Casino
    Sky Poker.com
    Olive TV (removed today).

I assume Spike TV have acquired one of the remaining SD slots listed above.

The channels going or already gone are very niche and unimportant to most people, so what exactly is the issue?

I would not disappear too easily - you may find interesting developments with the FEC changes and given two occurred yesterday I would not be surprised if more follow suit.

That may enable more HD muxes to start - we'll have to wait and see.

I suspect it's the reason Sky haven't done this as they are very protective about HD.

It's possible that one or more of the withdrawn SD EPG slots (most likely AlexCasino, but possibly one of the others) has been acquired by Lean Forward, the new firm set up by a number of former bid shopping staff - http://lgn1410594628.site-fusion.co.uk/ - for their forthcoming new transactional/gambling channel which is apparently set to launch imminently...

There might be a few people who care, it doesn't matter if they're not mainstream. Not everyone just watches mainstream you know.

Isn't the point of this thread to log all channel moves and changes irrespective of them being popular or not?

Its not so much that its that people were saying that it was a bad sign that channels were closing when it happens all the time with these little channels.

I don't get it, is there some Sky conspiracy to close channels or something? These rubbish channels never last long.

If it was not for this thread we would not be able to keep track of all the changes. There are actu7ally still a lot of changes on 28 East and always have been ever since the first transmission on 15 March 1998 (that was the original Sky Digital SD service of course).

Many other satellites don't change quite so much but it is good that we keep this up to date. I try my best to keep everyone informed of changes so do keep this up to date and in future I would hope that more channels start in HD.

There may not be much going on at the moment, but whose to say what may happen in future. You never know.

So it is worth keeping your eyes open on this thread. It has been running for 12 years updated mainly weekly, so don't lose faith.

Yes this thread DOES log all changes where known as well as discussion about them and that is good. Keep it up! :)
