Great movie, love the scene where Ryan O'Neil "auditions" for the robbers by trashing their car
I love the contrast between the beautiful neon lit night scenes, and the day scenes where everything looks so dirty and scummy. A perfect role for Ryan O'Neal, because he hardly has to say anything or change his expression much. Bruce Dern is fantastic in it, and I like his horrible van.

A classic.
Apparently the role was originally written for Steve McQueen.

When I first saw the Driver as a teenager I think I had a mini orgasm during that scene! To get slightly pseuds corner its almost as if Hill and his editor were drawing parallels with rough sex. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this, if I am I may need to go and get some help!
Mad Max 2 obviously for the first and climatic chase, and the first Max for the opening chase.
The Seven Ups for its v8 thriller across New York and into the countryside.

All of my favourite car chase scenes are in movies. They're rubbish in books.
