Well you're in luck as there's a few twin stick shooters out there. On XBLA the one game I would recommend the most would be Renegade Ops as it's one of the most fun and intense twin stick shooters around.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is like Geometry Wars mixed with Metroid. It's a great game for sure.
Check out Omega Five if you're looking at something similar to Forgotten Worlds. and Bangai Oh: Missile Fury if you're looking for something more technical and deep (it's a very hardcore game).
Both Mutant Storm games Reloaded/Empire are great examples too, same team who made Astro Tripper on PS3.
Space Giraffe is twin stick but mixed like Tempest, you know what else to expect from a Jeff Minter game.
Guwange is a Cave developed bullet hell shmup, so it's more traditional and very tough but the 360 game features twin stick support and it's makes the game even more enjoyable.
There's also a HUGE amount of TSS on the Indie channel, I can give you a short list of which I regard as being the best out there:
Score Rush (I personalty believe this has better gameplay than even Geometry Wars) Grid Space Shooter (Just released, very much like GW, with more ships/powerups and great soundtrack) Infinity Danger Basically an update to an old computer game called Warning Forever. Biology Battle Very similar to GW but with more to do and see.
Thanks for the reply can't believe I've never got around to playing Geometry Wars heard so much good things about it. Insanely twisted shadow planet sounds interesting might have to give it a go.
If we're just talking shmups rather than TSS then 360 is certainly where it's at. Between retail, XBLA and Indie store there's an Incredible amount and if you are serious about them there's a large Japanese import scene for the 360.
Next month the 360 is getting a pretty big release with Ginga Force (which is also region free) from Qute. That game is looking very nice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dmzkX1p1lE

I Love all the 194x games & that one is just as great as the old classics
I'd also recommend Ikaruga:

That game is one of the reasons I decided to buy a Gamecube.

Yeah I also think the MD is one of the best consoles for shooters. Poor old SNES was too slow, couldn't handle the BLAST PROCESSING.
