Really?

I always thought those two colours went well together.

Tell those that have looked at earth in awe from space that they don't go well together ;)

If so what colours do they go well with apart from black and white

We also know the colours that don't go. :D

BTW, a lot of the colours Dulux say do go I think are horrid.

I have a lovely blue and green scarf :)
I think the saying refers to bold shades. Perhaps emerald-green and royal-blue wouldn't go well together, but softer shades of these colurs might.

It is red and green. Along with orange and blue, and purple and yellow. Its when one primary colour is matched with a mix of the other two primary colours. Green contains blue (along with yellow), so matching blue and green is fine.

Hmm ... which primary colours did you have in mind ?

This is only true when referring to the "subtractive" colour system e.g. when mixing paints, dyes or (adapted slightly) printing inks.

But for most human purposes, perception of colour is based on the "additive" system where red, green & blue are the primary colours.

Returning to the original question, I always thought that the proverb read "Blue and green should never be seen without another colour in between", but the rhyme would work just as well with "red" at the beginning, so I guess it's a case of take your pick ...

Somebody should have told Sainsbury's that :)

I always thought it was red and green - because they do look absolutely hideous together.

There are plenty of clan tartans where blue and green merge well, my own one for a start has them together.

I've only ever heard that with red and green. As mentioned above, loads of tartans are blue and green.

yeah, reminds me of someone I know who is a staunch Rangers fan, she won't buy a green Christmas tree because its the WRONG COLOUR!!! :D

I asked her whow do fans cope when the team play in their home strip at Ibrox if green and blue don't mix? I'm not waiting for the day they insist the grass should be a different colour!

The three primary colours red, blue and yellow, each of which at its purest contains none of the others.

Purple is blue and red (with no yellow), orange is red and yellow (with no blue), green is blue and yellow (with no red). That is why these are the colours that shouldn't be paired with each other. Once all three colours are combined, you end up with different variations of brown.
