Streaming Video from PC to Wii

Again apologies if this has been discussed before.
Set up my Wii last night and it happily connected straight to my home network (much easier than the Xbox 360 set up).
I have a fairly sizable Divx movie collection, does anyone know of any 3rd pary apps which would allow me to stream this thru' my Wii.
On the 360, the only way of doing it is to convert to .wmv or similar format, resulting in a dramatic loss of picture quality.
Any thoughts?

I use TVersity now, can be a little buggy but works a treat and doesn't need you to sign in, log in etc etc.
Install on PC, setup your folders and point the Wii browser at the URL - job done.
http://tversity.com/home
PC will transcode on the fly, so you can pretty much play any movie type.
Just looking around, am I right in thinking I have to pay for Opera? Surely there must be a freeware browser out there!
Opera on the Wii was free up til June. I think it's 500 points now. Personally dont think it was a good move but hey...I dont run the system.
Got to say, finally set this up and quite impressed by it.
Somehow when sharing my photos folders its only picking the first 5 or so up though but streaming video to Wii right now and working fairly well considering it's over wireless.
Having trouble getting it to play mp3 though. says not enough memory.
Interestingly Opera is still Free for Computers and Mobiles so why are Nintendo charging for it?
Indeed considering that the Wii is designed from the outset with Internet connectivity why is the Browser a separate add on and not an integral part of it's O.S.?
Glad I downloaded Opera whilst it was Free:)
Also, does TVersity play DRM files. I've downloaded a few from 4OD and BBC iPlayer that Orb won't play and I suspect its the DRM.
Alternatively, are there any programs that can stream over the LAN?
Cheers,
Dave
Essentially if you have FFDshow installed etc I don't think even DRM files will be a problem - although I haven't actually got any to test this with
Maybe if you list what each setting is at we can all compare.
It goes via the net and back again i believe. Overall works ok taking this into account but since the tversity goes over lan it'll always be best (if you get it to work that is)
I only wish it worked with music files and I could customise the interface as it's a bit fiddly when using the Wii remote.
I recently unticked the box that says "The media server should accept request originating from outside the home network" to try and get the files to play on the PC that TVersity is installed on. When I click the file I want to play it says "Error loading video. Please make sure TVersity is running, the video exists and can be converted to a flash file. Are you missing a direct show filter?"
TVersity is running because I'm clicking in the it to go to the file, the server is running, the video does exist, and it can be converted to a flash file because Orb had no bother, and as stated above I have all the directshow codecs installed.
When I uncheck the option on the settings ("The media server should accept request originating from outside the home network") and go to the files on the Wii it just tells me that it cannot play that particular file type, no matter what it is.
Running Windows XP and the software is running on the main admin logon which is just called Dave. I don't know if that makes any difference. I followed some instruction on the TVersity web page that went on about running it on another Windows logon but the only other one I have it wouldn't accept the name and password that I set up. This was done through Administritive Tools>Services in Control Panel.
Can't think what else to do!
Media playback I have set to Auto
Auto start sharing is checked
http proxy is checked
I have also disabled accepting requests outside of my home network
Media....
probably nothing much in here
Transcoder....
only when needed is selected
media encoder i just left on windows media 8
other settings on there speak for themselves really.
Gotta try it on the Wii now. Is it just http://my.ip.address:41952/lib ?
apart from it should say fastlib and not just lib.
I'm going to assume you meant flashlib there.
If I am typing the IP address into my Wii browser am I not then streaming the content over the web. How do I stream it locally, over my wireless connection, and bypass the internet?
it has started playing the videos, but quite often it will just stop doing anything after 5 mins of playing and i have to reset the Wii browser software. that doesn't always fix it mind. sometimes i can browse the files on my PC but it just won't start playing them.
any ideas?
i'm being the ultimate geek here and writing this post using my Wii!! nerd alert!:)
yes to the first bit.
No, the Ip you should be using starts 192.168. (generally) and that is a local connection over lan
Mine use to stall ocassionally over wireless, have a fiddle with the settings, turn the settings for quality etc down low and see if that helps, then you can turn them back up to get the best quality you can for your connection.
I haven't had any problems since I went to a wired LAN connection on the Wii though. The adaptor was cheap - from play.com.
Might have a fiddle with the quality settings to see if that fixes the problem somewhat.
Cheers.
