Film where the viewer decides the progression

Remember those books where you had a choice to make and you went to a different page for whatever choice you decided?

Could that work with a movie with all the interactive options these days. DVDs are split into scenes anyway so it shouldn't be that hard.

Or has it already been done?

You mean like those Choose Your Own Adventure type books? I dont think thats ever been done with a movie, some games/visual novels do it though. But it would be interesting in a film format, not sure if it would work? :)

GTA and Saints Row are basically interactive movies.

It's been done online. For example: http://www.survivetheoutbreak.com/ A search for choose your own adventure film will find more.

It would need to be a majority deicide type thing and if you are paying £8.90 and don't get the one you want't you will be quite annoyed.

Tender Loving Care 1997. This is what you're talking about. It stars John Hurt and I actually own it but I've never got more than an hour into it, it's so dull.

iirc way-way-way back, in the 1960s or even further back, a horror movie came out for which movie goers were given a card containing a thumbs up and a thumbs down symbol - then at the end of the movie they would vote on whether the protagonist lived or died, and would then see one of two endings based on the results. (turned out the movie maker only made the die-ending)

Scourge of Worlds. It's a bit rubbish and for the price, the play through lasted about 30 minutes... (so totally not worth the full DVD price).

Return to House on Haunted Hill Blu-Ray did this with sort of average results.

The computer game Heavy Rain plays out pretty much as an interactive movie, and a cracking one at that.

Not a film but a recent ep of Hawaii 5.0 let viewers decide who the murderer was !!

( methinks the makers missed out on a fun thing of having one of the options being something really silly like "an escape leopard" or something equally/more amusing )

Clue has the option to end things differently on the dvd. What a great film.

I do not like the idea of choosing an ending or viewers participating in the construction of the narrative as it takes away the element of debate when you discuss the film afterwards.

It was the third one, it was rubbish though because they all died in the same order anyway. For example in the roller coaster scene you can change the order that two of the characters are on the roller coaster but then they argue about it and then decide to sit in their original seats anyway.
