The one by Europe? It's not all that bad, I like the solo.

As for my vote, for one of the worst songs, it's the Crazy Frog.

    Dingdingdingbabooomboomboom...

Oh, and the Mr. Blobby song.

Sak Noel - Loca People. The worst EVER #1 imo.

Tbh I don't even know if you can count it as having been 'written' - the lyrics are woeful!

I could not stand that. I also hated the Crazy Frog song.

I read once that Desree's Life was voted in the BBC's poll as the worst lyric ever written:

    'I don't want to see a ghost
It's the sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
    Watch the evening news.'

I think the Des'ree lyrics are meant to be awful. The song's about doing whatever you want with your life, I think, so her singing daft lyrics is part of that carefree attitude.

That's not their name! That's not their name! :p

Anyway my vote goes to Kate Nash (Foundations) and Sandi Thom (I Wish...Punk Rocker).
    Both are complete monstrosities.

Yep, and reached number 7 in the charts in 1980!

The worst song that I can think of at this point in time is 'Candy' by Robbie Williams. Lyrics/video are beyond juvenile.

    'Vertigo' by U2 isn't much better.[/QUOTE]

You realize that Vertigo is about resisting temptation (or not) and therefore uses religious imagery!?
It's anything but juvenile, it's pretty grown up really.

    "Foundations" is okay.

    The Sandi Thom piece of
noise, however, stinks to high heaven. >:(

Well Mr Residents Fan, is there any Residents song that isn't actually rubbish? :)

Oh, we'd be here all day if I listed all the not-rubbish
songs by the Residents  : here are two of the best ones,
    "My Window"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4s20EugVcQ

    and "Burn Baby Burn"

And you might be here even longer listing the rubbish.
Are we laughing at them or are they laughing at us?
I thought the whole conceit of The Residents was about trash aesthetics?
I have (or should I say had) two of their early vinyl records and I remember one clanging track where they had the cheek to reprise it. You probably know it, I can't find it.
I'm just thinking how is a song like 'Constantinople' not rubbish?

Actually I'm being facetious. I know exactly where they are coming from. The Residents are/were great.
Admittedly I thought the same about The Fall with their witty lyrics but when I actually saw them live, they were truly awful.

Coldplay is an easy target. For me, Chris Martin alternates between competent song-writing and songs that sound like they were written whilst somebody held a gun to his head. Para, para, paradise - etc.

Many of Michael Jackson's songs are godawful. Dirty Diana? Please, spare us.

There is a Pat Boone classic that I'm sure you're familiar with, but this cover version is horrendous :D

'Calling occupants of Interplanetary Craft' by The Carpenters. I've always been really surprised that such a talented pair committed this ghastly, toe-curling effort to vinyl.

What about the original by Klaatu - 'Calling Occupants'

This was rumoured to be a Beatles reunion song at the time.

It is the anthem of World Contact Day, apparently.

Klaatu are a Canadian prog rock group.
And the song is based on real events from 1953.
Klaatu is also the name of the main character from ''The Day the Earth Stood Still'.
