Cost of playing online.

It's finally got to the point where I'm sick of being the odd one out, not playing online. I barely game with friends anymore, and lots of games are without multiplayer/co-op these days anyway.
I do have the ability to play online, but I rarely use any console online as I worry about a big Internet bill at the end of the month.
How much of a strain does playing online put on broadband? Will my mother end up with a huge bill because of it if I do start playing online?

Why would she get a huge bill, do you(your mother) have a monthly usage allowance?
I'm not quite sure about that side of it. I think she pays for so much each month, but if we use more than that we pay extra. I dunno.
That's good to know. I guess I'll try it out and hope she doesn't complain.
Gaming uses very little bandwidth in general.
Just be aware that many ISP's do operate with this policy. My old ISP charged me £1 per every extra GB I used over my monthly bandwidth allowance and if I hadn't agreed to that prior then my connection was horrifically limited to dial-up speeds so you should check your tarrif before you go ahead. Just to be sure.
Check your tariff though.
You pay broadband provider...if you are on dial up, did you arrive on this earth in a dolorean ?
They give you a certain amount of download space usually 20gb
you play online
Ask your mum to change to unlimited broadband then she knows theres no extra charge....or keep it as it is and blame her or a sister or tell her the dog or cat budgie goat did it....use your imagination !!:D
If you are confused look at this !

10-15 gig a month? Something is wrong there if you are not on it every day.
Lets say 40 MB an hour (and thats generous) Xbox own website says it uses 10/15 MB an hour but we will go with 40MB, lets say you play 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for a month.
40MBx12 hours = 480MB a day X 31 days in a month = 14880MB which is 14.5 Gb a month. and that is every day for hours. So what games are you playing? Do you host every game?
My maths may be wrong as is late, but I sure its right.
Don't forget, you download a lot playing xbox live, some games more than others, and there is also dlc downloads, game and program updates, videos, demos etc... I downloaded a demo the other day that was 5gb on its own.
When I was on a 10Gb/month limit I occasionally went over when I was on SL quite a bit, but probably only 3 times in 2 years.
Playing the game you don't download much of anything, hosting the game you would download more. Downloading updates of course or any games/films or even streaming ads on the piece of shit dashboard would increase it.
I don't know how you can say you don't download 'much of anything', since every game is different. Some games download tons of information. Forza, for example downloads everyone elses lap times, ghost information etc... Tekken Tag 2 downloads a load of information everytime you click to play online- it sometimes takes it a minute to finish, then like I said game updates, dlc, demos, videos etc... There'd be no way I could have a limit on my home broadband. I don't even have a limit on my phones internet.
Unlimited BB is your answer. I don't know about other ISP's but Sky is truly unlimited. I downloaded over 70GB of movies in the space of 24 hours (it was all the Bond movies) and all I pay is £7.50pm (excludes line rental). I have 3 games consoles connected to our internet as well as a laptop, ipads, ipods, internet tablets, tv, mobile phones and all download data and iv'e never had a bill of more than £7.50 in any given month.
