He's a jolly nice bloke and all (rather boring and a tad tedious?).........but he's the sort of chap the Aussies epitomise us Englishmen as being a bit gay.
Ladies. Close your eyes and imagine Nigel. YUK!
Aussie Ladies..Close your eyes and imagine Nigel. Not that way again Bruce! He doesn't do any of us any favours.

We come from the same town. I'd love to know where he shops because the market there has a plentiful fresh supply of meat, fruit, and veg from local farms. I love Nigella for her food porn, I like Nigel for recipes that are usually more down to earth. Admitting that yes, sometimes he does do prissy chef.

I think someone's seen too many Foster's adverts. I'm really trying not to connect the use of "gruesome" in the title and your only complaint is him "being a bit gay", trying really hard.

I really don't see your problem, one man on tv seems to embody a pathetic Austrailian stereotype of us, so what?

He doesn't seem to have any friends. :(

He just comes across as a creepy loner with knives pinning things on the wall like a psycho.

And Nigella goes to the other extreme with her house always full of her 'friends' as if she spends her time endlessly entertaining and pretentiously showing off to us at home that this is what we should be doing but we can't possibly have as many friends as her or such a big posh house and constantly pouting about how easy it all is, whilst sucking chocolate ganache suggestively off her fingers, not trying to make us feel inadequate that we're not as sexy or as good in the kitchen or able to cook a banquet for a small country. Poor Nigel and his meals for one......:(

Poor Nigel and his meals for one...... Dead right for his books etc. But I always thought there was a never written about boyfriend/husband in the background. I think I will keep my eyes properly peeled in case he does actually wander round town undected, he does have that sort of blend in face.

Yes I'm sure I read in an article about him in the paper that he's got a partner

He always seem to make food for 4 or a family.
Strange that he's doing a series about meals everyday and using leftovers. With the amount he makes he'd be eating the same meal for a week!

I had a giggle last week when he introduced the show saying he doesn't follow recipies and makes things up as he goes along.
That's a nice theme for your new book isn't it :D

He may well have plenty of friends, not to mention a partner. They just may not want to be on the telly. In fact Nigel may just prefer to keep his private life seperate from his professional life, and let his food speak for itself.
Personally I love his programmes. His food looks great, and achievable.

It wouldn't surprise me if he has carved wooden puppets he uses as "family" that he brings out when the cameras aren't there.

I got his autobiography out on tape from library a few years ago and excellent listen with his own audio he had quite an interesting younger life - worth a listen especially his dealing with his sexuality.

Yep I'm a fan. I would so love to catch up with the guy in our home town and quietly acknowledge, politely say hello.

He is gay, it's already been said. Does it matter if he is?

Not a bit! I actually have several gay friends, but none of them look like him! ;)

What do mean you "think he's gay"! He has known he was gay since 9 years old.

"infuses the 9-year-old Nigel, who is bullied by his phlegmatic and abusive father, a factory manager, with a stoic dignity. The boy survives his torment, apparently without psychological damage. Even as a child, he knows who he is. In a poignant moment his father, accurately sensing that Nigel is gay, pre-emptively fires a young gardener on whom the boy has developed an innocent crush."

What are gay men meant to look like? :p

He's well known for having big dinner parties - I don't think he's a lonely character. And who cares how he comes across to Aussie men?

Jesus. That's pretty harsh and unnecessary.
Sorry, I was just going with the ridiculous title of the thread. I am a fan to be honest, he makes lovely food and seems a really nice guy.

    Not gruesome at all. :p

No worries, sir. Gracious of you to apologise. :)

I sometimes think he comes across as a bit dry on TV but his books are great!

Is that Toast? They made it into a drama with Helena Bonham Carter as his step mother.

I really enjoyed that when it was on but didn't some people question the truth of some of his recollections?

Personally, I like Nigel and find his style very relaxing but it is weird the way he presents himself as a complete loner, cooking for one all of the time.
