Don't forget that one zeleb can be "stealing the style" of another. Or if going for a retro look they are "channeling xxxx" - sometimes managing to "channel" someone whos still alive:rolleyes:

One magazine always refers to "Jordan, also known as Katie Price" every time they write an article on her (every week). That really annoys me.

I was somehow too gobsmacked by this one to feel annoyed:
    .... mincing around in London.
    = 'promoting one's latest movie in the UK?' A 2012 classic, imho. URL="http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1734336&highlight=mincing"]Explanatory thread[/URL :D

am loving this thread and just glad that I'm not the only one who has an i/rational hatred for this type of tabloid speak.

I love the sports pages when they say one football manager is described as "launching an astonishing attack!" on another manager or player, when they have just said something diplomatic to get out of an awkward question..... I also hate "sparked fury" & " left outrgaged" where there really isn't any. and now that tabloids use Twitter as a reliable mouthpiece they are running riot with non-stories.

what a shame Leveson hasn't included the banning of all tabloid speak in his report.

I hate the way they shorten everyone's names as well. Everyone always gets an "-ie" or "-ey" at the end of their name, even though no one who knows them ever calls them that. For example James Bulger and Madeline McCann were NEVER known respectively as either "Jamie" or "Maddie" but because of the tabloids, everyone thinks that's what these children are called now. Just another horrible mark of disrespect to their memories.

    Also "world exclusive"

A world exclusive isn't the first baby pics of a Jolie-Pitt kid. A world exclusive would be the announcement that aids or cancer have been cured.

Also 'first pictures' for either celebrities or just regular personal tragedies. Like people had been clamouring to see them!

I can't think of a celeb one, but the DM did 'first pictures' of that baby that was killed by a dog last week. Are people really 'Ooh, a baby has tragically died, but I can't form an opinion or consider this story of value unless there's a PICTURE'.

I hate the word "flaunting" in any way it's used. Either a lady flaunts her pregnant belly (=dares to go outside or to some event while pregnant, and look happy about the pregnancy) or she "flaunts" her engagement ring (=does not keep her left hand in her pocked/behind her back while outside).

Also "She is showing him what he is missing" about a female who has gone through a break up is really annoying. Yes, women aren't allowed to look good after a break up, they are supposed to "drown their sorrows" at home out of sight.

I assume by 'first picture' they mean "First picture lifted from a relative's facebook page".

DM loves to rundown social media like facebook and twitter, but a large chunk of their reporting now depends on it...

The best 'world exclusives' are usually in one of dodgy Des's trash mags and referring to people who most of the UK are unaware of, never mind the rest of the world, i.e. 'Josie from Big Brother exclusively reveals the time she broke wind during her Maths GCSE exam.'

'Read the shocking truth only in this week's OK YA'.

'Josie shows us the contents of her wheelie bin and reveals that she only changes her knickers every other week'

'We speak to Josie's exam invigilator who says: 'It was a stinker'.

Definately agree about the writers of the Daily Mail side bar who seem to feature page after page of skinny girls in skimpy bikinis who have 'poured their dangerous curves', (ie, wearing a too small swimsuit, showing side boobs), or have an 'enviable figure' (this normally translates as a girl having a normal, slim figure), or 'romping' (ie, walking, may be splashing about with a guy, but definately posing in that 'oh a camera, where?' kind of way). ''flaunting', is another overused, term - see romping. Not that as a male i'm complaining about pics of bikini clad girls on-line. Just the DMs facination with it, especially for those people who are totally unknown in the UK. They love to featre some 50-something tanned, leather hided creature called Rita Rusic, whose only talent seems to be able to lie on a sunlounger!

    This thread is hilarious.

I also hate romp, beau, any mention of curves.

    I'd like to add:-

partied = went for a few drinks

pint sized pop princess - used usually when refering to Kylie Minogue.

    Gal Pal - just BLLUUGGHH!!

Here's a great example from today's DM 'Real Housewives star Dana Wilkey 'squeezes her ample curves into a hot pink bikini' plus there's 'romping' on the beach with 'millionaire boyfriend'....

I also hate all the weather related hysteria...

The mecury plumetted to minus xx = it got cold because it's winter time.

Britian has been ravaged/blasted/plunged/swathed/battered by wind/snow/ice = it's winter time shock horror!!

Britain baked/sizzled/ in temperatures that were sent soaring into the 80s = it's summer time shock horror!!

    the mecury soared = ditto

When a couple's relationship is in trouble, we often read that they are "holding crisis talks". They're not world leaders or government officials! These "talks" also sometimes happen abroad, so it's probably just the man trying to win back the woman by taking her away and splashing some cash!

Oh and let's not forget "the One Direction hunk/heartthrob".

Worse still, when they say a couple's marriage is "on the rocks". I always think of a drink when they say that! Also, when someone small is described as "pint-sized"! (Edit-just noticed it mentioned above, sorry! ) And I hate the word "lag" used to describe prison inmates!

Another related football term is that said footballer who has "issued a come and get me plea" is described as "Wantaway"

Lotto lout - for any big lotto winner with a small time criminal record. Child sex monster - tabloids enjoy using that as it has more impact than paedophile. Gay sex scandal - normally used for any story where a married man gets caught with another man.

The Daily Fail uses this one endlessly and it really p*sses me off.

X,Y, or Z showing A,B or see what they are missing.

Ha ha Donna that is my favourite hate along with

"looks glum" when they are just walking down the street normally (as if they should be grinning like a cheshire cat)

    pouring the curves

calling people a "star" eg Kerry Katona, Frankie Cocozza et al

and rocking an outfit, not wearing it.

I'm just off to rock my PJs.

    "Performed a Sex Act"

Always makes me think about Strictly where somebody holds up numbers to score the performance :D

Years ago we had a brown envelope through the letterbox which we opened, not realising it was addressed to the son of the couple we bought the house off. It was a catalogue for mucky DVDs and one of them was Oral Sex On Ice

This is years before Dancing on Ice and that sort of reality show.

The Dutch postmark should have alerted me ;)

(and no we didn't order it) :p

I've never heard real people actually use those words in the context tabloids do.

The one that always gets me is the pointless adding of the word "-gate" to any vague scandal.

How adding part of the name of an obscure Washington office block that featured in a 1970's crime is relevent in 2012 is completely beyond me.

The word "tot" to describe a child.

"Yummy Mummy" just makes me want to scream

"Bubbly" to describe someone who is clearly just fat.

"Rocking a look" - argghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

"Worked as an escort" - just a posh word for Prostitute.
