Which one?

If anyone can spare the time, and doesn't mind, could I get some feedback on the following smart tv sets, please?
LG42LN575V, virtual surround sound - others dolby digital.
SONY KDL42W653
SAMSUNG UE40F6500, 4 HDMI
SAMSUNG UE4045500

The Samsung 6500 has 3D, which I would never use. I do like the 400HZ CMR. Also, it has both freeview and freesat.
LG - 100HZ, 3 USB, 3 HDMI
SONY - 200HZ, 1 USB, 2 HDMI
SAMSUNG 5500 - 100HZ, 2 USB, 3 HDMI

I won't be watching sport or movies; currently, I watch most programmes on my laptop, via youtube, which is why I want a smart tv. I know there isn't too much difference between 200/400HZ, but would it be quite evident between 100/400HZ?
Obviously, when you buy a new tv, you like to feel you are getting a better one than your current set, and 400HZ would be an upgrade. The difference between the cheapest - the LG - and the most expensive - the Samsung - is only £130, quite miniscule really. The 100HZ is the only thing putting me off the LG, and the Sony only has 2 HDMI slots, and fewer connectors.
Price isn't an issue, as all are good value for money, with built in wifi, an essential. Whichever, I will buy from John Lewis to get the 5 year warranty.
Other people's opinions would be so welcome. Thank you in advance.

The only person who can answer that question is you. Different people like different pictures, niall prefers Samsung, I prefer Sony but some of my friends prefer Panasonic. As you are going to buy from John Lewis, go to a large branch, get them to hand you the remote controls to ensure they are not set to some silly hyped up mode, and make your own mind up. Only your opinion matters, it's you who will be watching it. Don't forget to listen to the sound as well unless you intend to use an AV system full time.

Bit curious as to where you got the specs for the LG from. Nowhere that I can see on the LG website, in the manual or on the TV itself (I have one) is any mention of 100Hz. Not sure that getting hung up on bigger quantities of Hz is entirely worthwhile though.:)

And it definitely does have Dolby Digital. The Virtual Surround is something separate to that.

One thing I have found with both my LG and another LG my mum bought recently is that you have to spend a few minutes tweaking the picture settings.

It really doesn't do itself any favours straight out of the box. It makes every programme look like an episode of TOWIE, the default colour setting makes people look like they have bad fake tans.:D

As two different models were the same I have to conclude LG set them up like this for some unfathomable reason (and no they were not in "Shop" mode, first thing I checked!). Once you do get the colour balance right they do produce a pretty decent picture.

Haven't seen the others in the list in the flesh so wouldn't like to comment on how the LG compares to those.

I've just been compiling a list of Smart Full HD LED TVs with Freeview HD for a friend and the 4 you have chosen are on the list, all with exceptional picture quality. Not much on paper to choose betwen them so as the others have said, it'll be down to your personal preference. Once you've bought one, set up the picture from this link: http://www.avforums.com/home/pictureperfect.html

It works for me, and there's always copy and paste if for whatever reason it doesn't work for you. Or go to avforums site and find it from there.

    You DON'T mention a budget!

Have you the correct size room for a 40/42 inch screen?

    Try using this

    http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Calculate_the_Optimum_TV_Screen_Size_for_Your_Room

Have you thought about viewing angles and positioning of a soundbar or speakers?

(The speakers built into a skinny flat panel tv will be really poor quality)

Also, think about a calibration disc to actually set your potential new tv to its best output

Will you be watching fast sport/blue ray films etc?

Sit in a store, preferably the distance away from your favourite chair and sofa, and at angles, play with the menu, reset the picture/audio back to out of the box status, and take maybe your favourite action film down to see if you like/dislike the picture/audio

Any decent shop shouldn't mind you doing this, and make sure you can return it to store for money back anway......

Here are some reviews of your choices

    http://www.whathifi.com/review/samsung-ue40f6500

If you are wanting a new TV from your choices and thats your budget, I would personally go for the Sony

Look for reviews which mention smooth picture, great natural depth of colour, subtlety, deep blacks and bright whites

Especially if you are using a recording/on demand system seperately like Sky/Virgin/BT for extra apps

Or you could try Panasonic, whom make great TV's,

You could narrow your options or gain more info by reading here

or if you like, there is a great 32inch 1080P Full HD screen from Philips

stick a great bluray player underneath and you are away

NO - But he did mention that "Price isn't an issue,"
Will you be watching fast sport/blue ray films etc?

OP said : "I won't be watching sport or movies"

    The clues are there .....

    If money wasn't the issue.......

She could get a Sony KDL 55HX853

    a Panasonic TX-P50GT60B

    Or a Samsung PS51F8500
