The scene with Matt's Doctor in agony and the guy enters the room and collapses in front of him - if I were a kid I'd be spooked out by that!
Nice to see an episode which was genuinely disturbing (well, for 6:30pm on a Saturday night).

I'd say even in 7b... Cold War, Hide and Jttcottardis were scarier. The creature in Hide was far more disturbing as were the weird burt/fused "creatures" in jttcott.
I don't think even the smallest of children would be more scarred of this than say The Empty Child or Blink. Even Journey was more scary only an episodes ago. In fact I don't think this one was scary at all, it was a light hearted romp, but then again I'm not a small child. But still, The Empty Child and Blink scream in your general direction...
But scary? Sorry, but for me someone is a pretty sensitive soul if they think that.
All this stuff about awwww it's not scary kids wouldn't find it scary stuff is really stupid unless any of you are under 10...
However, the one episode that really disturbed him was "The Power of Three".
We had many sleepless nights and I had to hide anything vaguely resembling a cube out of his room for months.
He was so upset that I noticed he'd deleted the episode from the sky box months later although he insists that we never get rid of them so he can watch them again and again. Very strange.
But there's no telling what children will be scared of: my sister got spooked by the board game "Haunted House", if anyone remembers that. I don't think last night's episode was meant to be anything other than Scooby Doo scarey.
Because that's how discussion forums work. We're not here to all agree with each other.
That said, I didn't find it all that scary. Creepy in parts certainly, especially near the start where Mrs Gillyflower cornered that woman and said "I'm so sorry for your loss".
When Jenny opens the hatch at the bottom and the Doctor's bright red hand grabs her. At this point we obviously didn't know who it was and I jumped at DW for the first time ever.
Also, the bit where the guy burst into the room. My brain didn't quite register what was happening and I was really freaked out.
Never jumped during Who episode before, which was interesting. However, I remember being s**t scared of the wee boy at the start The Empty Child, when the Doctor's in the house and he's trying to break in. And when Larry blinks when watching the Angel in Blink and you see the screaming face for the first time. Oh my...
Well, we do have memories you know...
One of my memories, for example, is finding the robot imposter Doctor from 'The Chase' with William Hartnell (this is was on VHS; I wasn't born in the 60s) horribly creepy.
I think dopplegangers, especially of trusted figures, is always a frightening thing. The scariest book I read as a child was 'Grinny'. Anyone remember that? I guess 'Coraline' would be a more recent equivalent.
When interviewed on the radio recently, kids of 8+ seeing a video of a real beheading on Facebook were not disturbed and treaded it as a joke.
The scariest scene in New Who would be the faceless granny.
You have a point. My nephews were really scared by New Earth and had nightmares after it, but were unfazed by The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit which I thought pretty scary.
I thought Blink was the scariest personally, with The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and Midnight not too far behind.
