I have had this laptop, running win7 32 bit, about 3 years, and have never used firewire port before today, but now need to transfer video from DVC camcorder.
However can't get any program to recognise it as a working firewire port. Control panel reports.port is working ok.
Have tried different leads that I know have worked before, and have used camcorder previously on PCs running XP.
I have done a Google search and have come across a few posts recommending changing to firewire (Legacy) driver, but doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I had the same problem a couple of computers ago when I connected a Canopus capture device. It turned out to be a missing file that was expected to be supplied from Windows but wasn't.
I assume that the Device Manager is reporting the port as working ok.
I would suggest that you turn on the boot log and see if a missing file is reported.
