I just came across a new Iphone provider. I am a user of Giff Gaff which runs of the o2 network.

I just wondered where the below provider is better than Giff Gaff.

It seems too good to be true.Anybody any experiences?

A new Iphone provider?? Do the specialise and only allow iphones?

They use Vodafone's network and No, they are not as good value for money as Giff Gaff at all. Slightly cheaper outside of your allowance, but their allowance packages are rubbish. They offer more minutes and internet for £5, but in the long run, going for a bigger package on Giff Gaff is cheaper.

Also.. £10 a megabyte for international data? Are you kidding me?

    See for your self

actually it looks good to me, since you will never need to top up again. it's seems to be supported by adverts which you see while browsing.

also, the i wonder if the actual number given is premium or not, since if you have Lebara, some networks (i.e. t-mobile) doesn't treat it as national operator and calls to those don't come out of your allowance.

Other then that seems quite interesting

yes its ad supported (like samba) but there is some doubt if that business model can work in the long term.

Once you buy the sim for £5 you do not have to top-up again (maybe in 365 days the credit expires as this is not clear) and you get the 200 minutes 200 texts and 512mb of internet every month for £0. Its perfect for low users. My number begins with 077679 so i'm not sure as regards whether the number is classed as a UK number but i'd assume it is.

It's good for low end users who don't use their phone that much and don't want the hassle of topping up/taking out a contract.

But i wouldn't use it as a primary network myself as i would prefer to pay a cost per month for good CS, more mins/texts/data and reliability.

It's not as good as giff gaff for allowances but it'll be alright if you're a very low user and don't plan to make any out of allowance calls/don't mind ads.

Is it? for free? for most people that will do. It's only if you're pestering people constantly texting that it's not enough.

I actually think 200 is a normal number for most people.

Yeah me too. I think I got through about 20 texts last month. I use my phone mostly for data. Hardly any calls or texts.

9.5 By registering or activating an Account with Ovivo Mobile, you consent to Ovivo Mobile collecting, processing and sharing Peronsl Data provided by you or generated in the course of supplying the Services to you, including details of voice calls, messages or data that you have sent (“Traffic Data”) and the geographic position of your GSM mobile telephone (“Location Data”) for the purpose of:

    (f) Supplying selected and targeted marketing materials and media to you by web access, SMS, phone, e-mail or post

I have a sim with them and its been good so far. As far as there network goes the internet connection (as in APN and actual isp etc) is there own. and isnt via vodafone.

Every 2 to 5 MB you are directed to a page with ads. not a big problem you can use a proxy or vpn to bypass this.

The 'sharing' of data is only within it's operating partners as it is stated within the same clause:

    (a) Supplying the Products and Services to you
    (b) The administration of your Account by the Customer Services Department
    (c) Providing you with service information, for example about Network faults
    (d) The prevention or detection of fraud
    (e) Market research and profiling your usage and purchase preferences
    (f) Supplying selected and targeted marketing materials and media to you by web access, SMS, phone, e-mail or post
    (g) Complying with applicable laws and regulations

Pretty standard stuff, in fact most people share stuff of Facebook without looking at T&Cs at all...

Ovivo Mobile does not allow VPNs across its network. Customers who deliberately attempt to bypass the advertising are not compliant to the service terms and conditions and risk disconnection.

As someone that has ported over from GiffGaff to Ovivo, I can confirm that the customer service so far eclipses anything GiffGaff could offer.

So far the customer service has been far superior to that of T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone. I've never had an issue with o2, so I would put them on a par.

Ovivo may not last long, but we'll see. So far the ads on the internet have not been too intrusive, and I've only seen ads for some Holiday Company.

And you are surprised by this? you want them to just provide you with a free service full stop and no benefit to them / nothing in return?

Home users shouldn't need to use a VPN and Ovivo is only for home use / browsing, not business use. I completely see where they are coming from.

It works just fine if you're happy to see ad pages in your browsing. I wish you could see how much data you have used and have left though.

    Do you work for Ovivo?

Just asking as 3 posts on two Ovivo threads.....

    EDIT

Or should i say praise/defending them

Guy on the giffgaff forums is trying them out and gets an ad every second click while browsing, sounds bloody annoying

    Was that copy/pasted?

Surely 12 x £10 Goodybags is a lot more than a one off £5? I would need to go over Ovivo's monthly allowances substantially to spend another £115 per year.

It's only 69p in the EU.

I use a SSL based mail (My own email server) and it works just fine. and i use a Galaxy S2

But from my expierence it only redirects when using standard HTTP connections, radio and streaming apps work fine.

I've been using Ovivo on my smartphone since the beginning of the month (my 1st smartphone)

As I'm still a social member of the human race 200 texts and 200 minutes is more than enough for me. :-)

Not sure where the giff gaff member gets that they are seeing the ad page online every few seconds but I see an ad maybe twice a day and even then you touch 'skip' before it even renders the page. I can live with that for free

It may not last but while it's there I'll make hay. Why pay???

As a giffgaff user i definitely wouldn't recommend them, customer service is poor & painfully slow relying on email. Their website is a nightmare & recently some people were unable to top up for several days! I wont criticise them over their recent outage become that was down to o2. But i would recommend anyone considering joining giffgaff too read the forums of complaints & issues on their website. As for Ovivo i haven't used them but i recently tried talk mobile which uses vodafone & found their network to be very lacking. I took a train from Cardiff to Cam&Dursley station & had no signal for the whole journey!. Im currently using three £15 all you can eat data on the surface this seems great but now between 3pm & 12pm three traffic manage the data to a point when its totally unusable so i cant see me staying with them.

I think what im getting at is you get what you pay for & cheap networks are just not reliable.

well, o2 is very bad in the flat i live, so bad you don't even get text messages, so i got my gf an ovivo and reception is great, battery life improved. although i find o2 internet to be better in London, looking at her usage, having reception is more important for us.

so, as a 5 pounds one time charge, 200min, 500mb and 200 texts seems to be enough and worth a try.
