Yes indeed they do sometimes i think people just hate on the Simpsons because it is still running, and ratings in America seem fine, as are the ratings over here, People just love to hate it.
Season 23 had some solid episodes, So i am looking forward to this season,

I'm not one of the haters by the way, i will watch The Simpsons until the day it ends and i'll be sad to see it go, but Season 23 was awful in my opinion, and it was all down to the terrible writing, so my hopes aren't exactly high for this season unless they can bring it back around (or maybe get some fresh writers in), even the most ardent fan has to admit that it's a shadow of it's former self.

The only plus points it had was Lisa 'denouncing' Lady Gaga (although it was blatantly obvious that by the ending they'll be the best of friends) and Homer and Grandpa singing their version of Pokerface (Homerface).
That was the Season 23 finale which has just aired on Sky1.
I've not watched it yet (still got 7 episodes stored up on my planner but can't bring myself to watch them after how awful Season 23 has been...), but what you've just described sounds like everything that is wrong with The Simpsons at the moment. Cramming celebrity cameo's into nonsensical plots for the sake of it.
It almost looked like a "Back Door Pilot" for a Lady Gaga Cartoon series.
There certainly seemed to be more of LG than Simpsons.
Exactly - there was little sense or proper storyline to it.
Well i finally just got around to watching it, and have to say that they really outdid themselves there, it was easily one of the worst episodes i've ever seen, if not THE worst. Absolutely pathetic on just about every level, i didn't laugh or even smile once, and the storyline was just an abysmal Lady GaGa vanity project that had no place being a Simpsons episode.
As a huge fan of the show during it's golden years i'm truly saddened that it's fallen so far. Season 22 was "alright" but it really went off the deep end during Season 23. They better have improved for Season 24, otherwise i think i'll actually be glad to see it end at Season 25 (assuming it doesn't get renewed again, although with the ratings in the US still being fairly strong i can see them dragging it out for a few more years yet...).
