Yay! I've got full access to the ratings machine back.

Just for fun, inc +1 the live audience for PoI was 892k (3.7%), increasing to 1.04m (4.0%) in the overnights and finally consolidating to 1.52m (5.2%). Some 41% of consolidated viewers watched on some kind of recording device.

And to confirm, last night's PoI got 1.232m (4.9%) inc +1.
    DALLAS (TUE 5 FEBRUARY 2102) 1.22m
    DALLAS (TUE 5 FEBRUARY 2202) 160,000

That's a big old timeshift for Dallas' final instalment at 9pm. It almost doubled its audience in the official numbers! :eek

Repeating the exercise (just because I can! :D), and inc +1:

    Live: 617k (2.8%)
    Overnight: 716k (3.1%)
    Consolidated: 1.38m (5.0%)

As you say, Dancc, that is a stunning timeshift (55% of viewers were not live), the kind of timeshift you can get on multichannel, which suggests pitting it against Death in Paradise was not a great idea in commercial terms. I understand why they wanted to keep NCIS in place on Wednesdays, however - it topped the week for Channel 5 with 1.82m (6.3%) consolidated inc +1.
    - Does BARB or the official ratings count iplayer ratings because you are right that a lot of shows get high iplayer views nowadays.

BARB does include at least 20% of iPlayer use - those viewings that are on a TV via certain things like Sky on Demand and some games consoles. (It may be more than 20% now that Sky have teamed up with iPlayer andmore people are activating their systems - including me.)

    - Also, could someone give me the breakdown for mr selfridge and ripper street last night. Thanks.[/QUOTE]

NCIS isn't done growing yet. It can rate close to that 2m mark and should do so again at times this season. But the schedulers let it down big time. It doesn't get as much promotion as some of the other imports on the channel either, which is a bit odd.

Q4=quarter 4 (Sept-Dec). Although with CSI: Vegas starting earlier than planned due to Dallas tanking, CSI: NY will probably start before September.

    Yeah I thought so.

    Thanks for that definition.

The promos make the show look good, so CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will hopefully bring in big numbers upon its return on the 26th.

A reality gameshow Whodunnit? which is set to air in the Summer in the US looks like it should be picked up by Channel 5.

Dallas should never have been relied upon like you said it's season one performance wasn't great. Ratings fell consistently come every episode.

Two pieces of news which I've scanned over if someone has posted them:

Firstly, the BBC has commissioned a six part adaptation of War and Peace:
    http://www.c21media.net/archives/101601

And secondly E4 have recommissioned My Mad Fat Diary for a second run:
    http://www.channel4.com/info/press/news/e4s-my-mad-fat-diary-commissioned-for-a-second-series

I think they've been lucky considering it's rated lower than what Skins did last year, although as we've said regarding Great Night Out it's probably better to try and grow that audience rather than take another risk on something new along with all the associated costs of setting up a brand new series. For me though Mad Fat Diary would be a hell of a lot better if it wasn't for the central character!

CSI: NY has 17 episodes which will mean it'll start around August, I imagine Body of Proof will fill the gap after CSI finishes although I wonder if that'll go to Fridays after The Mentalist.

Hopefully it'll recieve lots of promotion, as to bring in viewers.

I think sending Body Of Proof to that slot would be a bad move. Castle (which aired at 22.00 after The Mentalist on Fridays) didn't rate too well and viewing figures tended to drop off. I know this was partly down to Castle's prolonged break, but I think the slot was another factor that came to play as part of its downfall.

I personally think Body Of Proof should air Thursdays at 9pm. With perhaps new episodes of Extraordinary People/Benidorm ER/ Big Body Squad airing before it at 8pm.

My idea for an ITV schedule shakeup...

    http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1389/imagecn.jpg

    Warning: Contains fantasy schedule, :D:o
ITV has launched a revamp of the "skeleton" of its schedule, bolstering News output, reintroducing Corrie to its traditional Sunday birth and axing Daybreak.

The changes were overseen by Peter Fincham who reported to Adam Crozier directly during the decision process. The pair agreed that Sunday nights were a sorry state and that reintroducing Emmerdale and Coronation Street would give the evening a firm return to cozy drama and entertainment.

After many years of trying, ITV have thrown in the towel and reinvented breakfast on ITV. Goodbye Daybreak, hello ITV Breakfast News, a new news-channel esque morning programme from 6am every morning. The two-hour edition will feature national, international and regional news as well as some magazine features.

Lorraine kicks off her show at 8am followed by Jeremy Kyle at 9am and then This Morning at 10.

In a new move the news will air at 12 o'clock for an hour, in a beefed up offering including more national and international news and slightly more regional content.

Fincham said: "We've not put our incredible news service out there enough. In the past, maybe, but today we believe in journalism and the relevance of human stories to our audience so we've added over three hours more in the way of news content every day."

He points to increased user activity on the ITV News website, something which will be further improved and invested in. "The extended News output will provide a firm anchor to the network all week," said Fincham.

Afterwards it's back to the usual daytime treats like The Chase, Alan Titchmarsh and Tipping Point.

At six it's the new, hour-long ITV News at 6, with a full bulletin of regional, national and international news. For your full story, it's ITV News at 6, the only news show with an integrated mix of news.

The primetime schedule is unchanged apart from some changes to the soap scheduling. Emmerdale and Corrie return to the 7 o'clock hour on Sundays, losing their current episodes on Thursday and Friday.

Crozier said: "With an informative new breakfast News edition, return of Sunday nights to hearty drama and soap, and new openings at 8 o'clock during the week, the new ITV schedule is ready to fill up with all the amazing new shows coming up..."

It's just messing for the sake of messing. The lunchtime news is a natural break between the female friendly shows and the older skewing afternoon line up. Putting the failing Titchmarch show in a more prominent slot a the expense of Tipping Point is nuts too. I thought fantasy schedules were a thing of the past?

But a big round of applause from me.

Just seen the trailer for Mayday for the first time which quotes the start date (rather than "Coming Soon") and states "Five nights of drama".

Also, does anyone know the ratings for yesterday's repeat of Penguins: Spy In The Huddle.

edit: forget that, just seen NeilVW's post above. Cheers for that.:)

Good repeat figure for Penguins. It got 4.6 million on first showing last Monday.

Wasn't Africa getting good repeat figures in a similar slot to that as well?

Saw that as well, it's good that they're giving the start date from the off. Just had a thought as to why it's airing when it is, I wonder if they moved it up because they were worried about the similarities to ITV's Broadchurch, although now it could be going against it.

The repeat for the final episode of Africa had 4.4m, under 1m behind the Wednesday night screening and ahead of Martin Clunes and his horses. including +1.

Emmerdale should be cut IMO. The second episode on Thursday should be dropped altogether.

Random question I know, but what font is that? Thanks.

The fact is the "bones" of the schedule need reorganising.

We need a return to the cozy Sunday on ITV with drama from 7-10pm ideally.

We need a replacement for the awful Daybreak, and a sort of News Channel will instead air featuring ITV News presenters in pairs. It would raise the profile of what is an excellent News network and would have a lighter tone and magazine features in addition to national and regional news.

And we need more opportunities in the schedule. Thursday at 8 is freed up for hour-long programming under these plans, hopefully a few pre watershed series could be trialled here too.

Overall it's stability and sense for things to follow an order, and by putting "aces in places" they can organise the schedule more efficiently for growth.

And tbh the order of 2-5pm is really not that relevant, it's the other bits which I think are important - the Sunday night reformat and the News anchoring the channel far more.

Everyone is so resistant to change, and unable to think holistically.

Last 4 episodes of Blandings were pretty consistent at a bit under 4m. Episode 5 actually had 4.01m and episodes 5 and 6 did a bit better than episodes 3 and 4 (I'm talking here about overnights). Think it's probably done just enough for a recommission.

Do you mean weekdays? Here's Sunday, anyway:
    (repeats not indicated, obvs)

    ITV2 (exc +1)
    06:00 - Planet's Funniest Animals: 20k (2.2%)
    06:20 - Emmerdale Omnibus: 104k (2.8%)

    11:30 - Take Me Out:157k (1.9%)
    12:45 - Take Me Out: the Gossip: 82k (0.85%)

    ITV3 (exc +1)
    06:00 - Murder, She Wrote: 53k (4.5%)
    06:55 - Agatha Christie's Marple: 127.5k (3.0%)
    09:00 - Heartbeat: 341k (4.3%)
    10:05 - Heartbeat: 369.5k (4.6%)
    11:10 - Sparking Cyanide: 281.5k (3.3%)

    ITV4 (exc +1)
06:00 - New: World of Sport: Kings of the Canvas: 5.5k (0.6%)
    06:10 - Film File: 4k (0.4%)
    06:20 - Cheers: 17k (1.35%)
    06:40 - Cheers: 14k (0.9%)
    07:10 - Cheers: 18k (0.7%)
    07:35 - Police, Camera, Action!: 26k (0.65%)
    08:10 - The Big Match Revisited: 78k (1.25%)
    09:10 - The Saint: 38k (0.5%)
    10:10 - GT Academy: 48.5k (0.6%)
    11:10 - World's Wildest Police Videos: 60k (0.8%)

I've taken a liberal interpretation of "breakfast time" there, but it was Sunday!

Why ITV4 decided to premiere something at 6am is beyond me.

I actually really like that schedule bar the second Monday Corrie. It just looks untidy sitting there in an otherwise clean and well thought out schedule. I presume Thursday 7:30 is Eastenders and hence that Corrie couldn't ever go there? I don't really keep up with soap schedules enough to notice.

The reason the League Cup Final is getting less publicity is because this year it's not a very inspiring fixture whereas last year Liverpool were in it. It's not getting subdued coverage because it's not on the BBC, it's because it's only on a pay channel.

However for a cup final, it has a top half PL side against a League 2 side, of which neither have won anything in a very long time. [Swansea - Bradford]
There are quite a lot of hooks to this game, this could easily be bigged up quite nicely if it was on BBC.

This type of line up in a final makes it rather unique, an that could easily be sold.

Of course, I am extremely biased for reasons outlined yesterday.

My idea for an ITV schedule shakeup...

    :D

A great schedule.................. for the BBC!;)

The One hour lunchtime news has already been done by ITV around 5 years ago and it was a big flop (12.30-1.30). All it did was further weaken the Lunchtime news (from which it has never recovered) and gave BBC News at One a further boost.

Also switching from housewife friendly Daybreak to an ITV News Breakfast show is just asking for trouble. It would make the transition to Daybreak from GMTV look wonderful imo.

Secondly why would ITV do the News at 6 given the hammering the ITV News at Ten gets at the hands of the BBC NAT? Also the current ITV News hour at 6 generally loses viewers when they go to the national news. Why put the weaker product first?
I very much doubt anyone wants a integrated news hour.Apart from ITV accountants (who would like the regional news cut to 15 mins).

If I was ITV I'd try and sort out the mess which is their primetime schedule before tearing daytime to bits which, bar Daybreak, is doing ok. The soap schedule is pathetic with no rhyme or reason to it - Emmerdale with a random 8pm episode; Coronation Street having double episodes on Monday and Friday yet Tuesday's collapse and Thursday's are weak after 7.30pm (the second Emmerdale never performs as well as the first).

BBC Two are getting some traction with their cookery shows, which got some nice shares in daytime. Across the day, BBC Two had a share of 6.9%, way above Channel 4's 5.8% inc +1. Obviously a Top Gear boost helped, but still good.

Alan Titchmarsh "a daytime treat" ?

Yeah, if you're a female OAP maybe. :D

The suggested schedule isn't that different to what they do now. Same old sh!t different order. But the chances of them doing more news must be very very slim. This is an area which ITV has cut back more than most, with regional news now a shadow of its former self and no longer worth watching as far as Anglia News is concerned. If they can't be bothered to invest in one of their flagship bulletins at 6pm, you can forget the idea of further investment in the lunchtime national.

Last 4 episodes of Blandings were pretty consistent at a bit under 4m. Episode 5 actually had 4.01m and episodes 5 and 6 did a bit better than episodes 3 and 4 (I'm talking here about overnights). Think it's probably done just enough for a recommission.

    Please no! Its expensive rubbish
