Help with Nintendo 3ds XML

Hi. I have recently got a 3ds Xl and tried to download free game . Got the code and did everything instructions said, but every time I go to play it it says downloading and says 30% and to close system to resume download. Well I have done this and still not downloaded. Sorry new to all this. Can someone help.

    If its a proper retail game it could take hours ... Just plug ya 3ds into the mains & leave it on standby. :)
