How long has this relic of Sky1's schedule existed for and why is it that they put this on, fascinating as it is, it's actually one of the programmes that doesn't stream on Sky Go just like The Simpsons.
What do you think are the reasons behind Sky1 choosing to broadcast this lone religious programme for an hour on Sunday, albeit 6am at a time where it seems like its some sort of public service requirement, perhaps someone religious has something on Rupert Murdoch.

I believe it is Sky's longest running programme, it was broadcast on Sky Channel even before the 4 channel service launched in 1989.
I have seen it on CNBC in the past too.
Gotta love the Murdoch conspiracy theories that exist round here. I very much doubt Mr Murdoch has any involvement or interest in the programmes which are scheduled on Sky 1 - probably much less than the Chairman or DG of the BBC does for BBC1......
As for Hour of Power, I suspect the hour is a cheap one in Sky's week and is affordable to the church which make these programmes.
FWIW, Sky aren't the sole broadcaster, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hour_of_power
"In the United States, the Hour of Power is seen on Lifetime cable, TBN, and on nearly 100 local stations. It is also shown on the American Forces Network.
In Europe it is broadcast on CNBC Europe, VOX in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, on RTL in the Netherlands and Sky1 in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
In the Middle East it is carried on METV in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.
In Australia, it is seen on EXPO, Australian Christian Channel and Network Ten; the program is also broadcast weekly on radio.
It is broadcast in New Zealand on the Prime network.
It is broadcast in Hong Kong on ATV World.
The Hour of Power telecast, filmed in the Crystal Cathedral’s main sanctuary, at one point attracted 1.3 million viewers from 156 countries."
You're probably right. Paid religious programmes are a big thing in the US, with televangelists who are always begging for money to save your soul and fund their lavish lifestyles: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9163677/Lavish-spending-of-Americas-first-family-of-televangelism-revealed-in-bitter-legal-feud.html
There's a lot of these programmes on CNBC Europe at the weekend, but other than that they're not very common in the UK.
CNBC are still showing it on Sunday mornings. They've had religious crap on Sunday mornings for as long as I've been watching it, hence why I don't really watch the channel at weekends apart from Wall Street Journal Report/On The Money with Maria Bartiromo. Mum used to watch the golf on there some weekends but she doesn't any more. Not watching at weekends doesn't make me any less of a cnbcwatcher, so don't worry about that
What about Late Night with Jimmy Fallon? My favourite programme on CNBC, weekends or otherwise!
But as someone has already said, I suspect that Sky One (and CNBC) get paid to broadcast Hour of Power, in the same way teleshopping works. I’d be amazed if Sky One actually pay for it. I have no evidence though.
I don't watch it unless there's a guest on I want to see. I did watch it one night the other week as Brian Williams from NBC Nightly News (which I do watch) was on it. Weekends have always been for other channels and doing other things like going out Saying that I'm not even in the house much on weekdays except in the evenings and early in the morning (not counting sleeping hours). I'm currently posting from one of the cafes at university.
Father and son weren't even on speaking terms for a few years. Sheila announced last year she was leaving to start her own church, which she has since done. The Crystal Cathedral's finances have been in a mess for a while, so much so that they've actually now sold it to the local Roman Catholic diocese.
It's effectively a building swap. From this summer, the Hour of Power will come from St Callistus Church. which is currently the building the Catholics use.
The Hour of Power service is now conducted by Schuller's grandson, Bobby. He started last month and is doing a pretty good job in my view. I have no comment to make about the internal politics.
The service has, however, become somewhat more traditional in nature in recent times.
I suspect that they are, for the simple reason that when Sky 1 analogue became encrypted, the encryption was switched off when this programme was on.
Bit like morning worship on ITV Sundays but at around 10 am.
Till they dropped it

This was always my favourite religious programme...
Very interesting, who would have thought that Murdoch was religious, unless there's some other reason for him doing it.
Does it still become FTA since Sky went digital? I wonder what happens on VM, I can't check by pulling my card out as I now have a virtual smartcard.
Wonder if he's still going to pay for it now that he's got no involvement in Sky
Darren
Does anyone know roughly when it first appeared on Sky One? It must be coming up to nearly 30 years now.
Sky was the original home of Power Rangers in the UK
Yes, 9am I think..
Scottish Television was like meh, and opted to broadcast Sesame street at 10am on a Sunday for years... ( late 70s - mid 80s) STV did have worship once a month around 11am for 30mins...
I thought there was an ITV license requirement to do two hours(?) of religious programming a week?
Of which an hour was Morning Worship, half an hour Highway and half an hour various bits and bobs.
In the early 90s Highway was axed and the full 2 hours requirement was broadcast on the Sunday morning.
Or did those rules not apply in Scotland?
