    Good Evening All,

It has been a beautiful day. We had a lovely run/amble, then 17 of us went back to Tasso and Olga's for lunch,
We had a "Popular Ukranian Soup" which had a base of ham and potatoes and was very tasty. Then there were various caviares, Russian salads and dips, followed by BBQ'd meats and sausage. For dessert, there was yoghurt with candied Quinces, an apple pie, strawberries and other fruits.
There were Vodka shots, beers and wines too and Ukranian "champagne".

A couple of Greek National parades passed beneath their balcony. The schools drill the kids for a long time beforehand but I don't know why they bother as they are never remotely in step..:p Typical Greeks, all doing their own thing and refusing to be coralled or ordered around - and I say this with great fondness.:)
Stop, i can't take it, all that yummy food.

    Balders Medical Update

    :mad::mad::confused:

If you recall about 3 weeks ago they were going to admit me to horsepiddle because of abnormal blood gas readings. Just got the letters from horse-piddle to GP cc'd to me.

Turns out there was nothing wrong with me. The initial readings were venous rather then the required arterial. So obviously the O2 and CO2 will be different.

Obviously venous blood will have more CO2 than arterial blood but because the blood is analysed by partial pressure rather than total amount the readings don't give an indicator of actual amounts just whether they are too high.

The second (correct) readings were taken when I was passed to A&E. I was talking to the docs there (as I always try to get as much medical info as possible) He said even if your 02 or CO2 is way abnormal the venous blood is still obviously purply and the arterial bright red.

I'm constantly amazed at the ineptitude of medics - although I accept that the majority of them are highly trained and good at what they do. If someone had told me what they told you I'd probably have a had a stoke on the spot. Maybe the A&E docs are more familiar with the process than the specialists???
Speaking generally and not for anybody, i think it is usually better to go ahead and do as much as you can, even if there is a small risk of injury.

I am watching the voice and wondering when good diction went out of fashion.

You've just reminded me that I forgot to watch! I loathe Tom Jones which could be a tad annoying, but I quite fancy the format - must find it and catch up.
There comes a time for most of us when we cant get around as we would like, and will have to accept it. Pain too.
I see no point in letting that time arrive sooner than it has to and the odd injury will be accepted in return for maintaining a decent quality of life.
Some might be happy to sit in cotton wool but it quite obviously wouldnt suit a strong spirited person like Hollie. I hope she ignores your advice and continues to get around as best she can even if she encounters the odd killer cup of tea on the way.:)

I tend to agree - 'use it or lose it' applies to us all, more so the older you get.

Watching David Walliams and John Bishop push on through their pain barriers was inspirational for me. I realise that they're both relatively young men, but even so, it gives you something to think about.

Show off:p I've re-potted some plants, tidied a bit but I haven't done any little weeds, I'll wait til lthey get bigger and the ground is softer!

Evening everyone:) Had very productive day both inside and outside in the garden. Also took the dogs for quite a long walk, almost fell into a stream, over balanced slightly which OH found hilarious - I twisted my ankle so wasn't seeing the funny side.

Very excited now, my daughter will be here on Saturday:D:cool:

Looks as if it'll be nice here today. The haar came down last night about 6-30pm (& it was pretty chilly) it had lifted again by about 2-00am.

I hoovered my entire house yesterday & then cleared all of the weeds from the driveway! I'll weed the borders later today. Thank god for Vit B 12, that's all I can say. I'm sure I use it all up in the 1 few weeks after I get it. :D

Could you parcel some up for me please next time - 's not fair.

I didn't realise he was an eagle

I cant really see the point of the voice. The "contestants" are pre-selected by looks so what is the point of the swivel chair malarkey?
Well he had very big wings. But maybe what I had in my mind was his name?

Well I have finished tidying out my press. Got rid of loads of papers and tidied up and filed the tons left. Haven't tackled the memorabilia pile yet, will take a bit more thought, but now i can see where every category , and makes filing new stuff much easier. O deep joy, sitting in my lovely study. I can see some lovely things now.

I have also done a bit of planting etc today but it was a bit chilly to do all of it. Hicky, I am not sure I would recommend container gardening in a real garden. I find the pots and so on a bit pricey.

I saw the first bit of the repeat and noticed his name was Eagle. It amused me anyway, eagle or no. I wish they would just show the contestants without all the sob story bits. I thought it especially insulting to the opera singing boy with the lousy sidekick. (I liked the concept of the duet, just not her)

    Hi Littsis.:)

I wouldn't recommend what others do in their particular garden.
They would need to consider all the pro's and Con's.

The only things that grow in earth are a veg plot and a Climber on the Pergola, but if i grew another it would be in a pot.
I find being able to move them ideal, also i can control what food and water they get and when.
In pots/tubs i have 3 Fan Fig Trees, Fruit trees, Apple, Pear, Plumb, Cherry, Peach, Nectarine, 4 vines each in their own tub.
In pots later will be Toms, Peppers , Chillies, Peas,Onions, Garlic, Beetroot.

Spuds will be grown in the raised veg bed when the existing onions and Garlic come out.

    Hicky wrote: »
You could do what i do and thats have most of your tree's plants etc in tubs, i get different sizes but the 50 to 80 ltr with handles would be fine, get John Innis No.3 and some course grit and 3/4 fill the tubs, but some broken pottery or pieces of stone in the bottom, then grit for a couple of inches as drainage is so important, the tubs i get have drainage holes already in them.
These are super, i use some 50ltr and some bigger, they are great for the price, you can of course move them round as you want.
You can get fruit tree's Toms, peppers, chillies, flowers, have a great back yard.

I'm just waiting for 3 more to be delivered next week, the POT38 size.

Hicky, I suggest that your "You could do what I do" in response to Balders is the sort of wording that most people might think was very close to a recommendation, and could be taken or left as desired. But in any event, I didn't say you had recommended it, I said I didn't think I would recommend it, on the grounds of cost.

It's just your interpretation, that's not a recommendation, just a suggestion..

Of course the cost can be dependant on how many plants/trees/pots are needed.

My 50ltr pots are £9.73 and you then need the compost etc, also the tree/plant to grow in it.

I think Hicky made a good point about being able to control the environment and feeding better, for delicate plants i suppose, or those not suited to your soil, but they seem awfully overpriced, and surely it will "bonsai" the trees?

They were totally brilliant, so single minded. I'm glad they filmed some of the lowest points because there are always people who don't believe that celebs ever actually perform these challenges themselves:rolleyes:

It made me feel that I should've been doing the SR mile today, but I walked the dogs for more than a mile, and made a donation on Friday, so I guess I made the effort!

We've probably got at least 60 pots, and I doubt we paid full price for any of them. To be fair I guess quite a few came from dad's house when we sold it, but the rest we bought either on sale, or I found through Freecycle. Some of the larger ones we have at the front are actually plastic pots, but we've sprayed them, so you can't tell unless you touch the pot.

I've never looked but I bet they have them on eBay too - not sure about P&P though for the larger ones!

The fruit tree's these days are grown on special root stock that controls the final size of the tree, because so few people have land large enough to let fruit trees grow without restriction.

You can get a fruit tree that will grow the size to suit your garden.

Mine will only grow to a couple of metres and it's shape and size can be controlled by the correct pruning.
