Have got to dress my seven year old up as a book character for Book week at school. Am racking my brains for some good ideas for costumes that are easy to create - that aren't Harry Potter!
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would imagine just very shabby clothes.
A lot of other children went as Spiderman and other superheroes, they were mostly from Marvel comics before they were cartoons I think?
Little red riding hood?
One of the seven dwarfs
A witch from the wizard of oz
the tinman
dorothy
Goldilocks
As a cool girl, like the bang on the door cool girls.
As a bratz.
one of the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate factory, like the girl who turned blue? A bit of face paint and blue clothes would do it.
Or is that Huckleberry Finn
I LOVED Burglar Bill when I was a kid. It was the only book I remember my dad reading to me. Every so often, even thirty+ years later, one of us will say (without being aware of it) that something or other is a NICE something or other, and the other one of us will say I'LL HAVE THAT! and we both giggle (and my mum rolls her eyes at us.)
That's Huck Finn. Tom was a nice boy, lived with his auntie. Huck was the one with the rips. Aaaaah, my misspent summer holidays in the 70s!
I agree that it would be a nice easy one to do.
Yeah or building on this how about as a Soviet commissar from Antony Beevors' Stalingrad?
Yup. To this day in our house when we see something we like we say, "I'll have that". We all know what we mean.
And in this house too
I don't know if the child is a boy or girl . Alice in Wonderland or any character from that, Mad Hatter etc, or The Jolly Postman .
Or Michael Darling-( out of Peter Pan) for a boy ? John Darling is the second youngest of the Darling children. In some of the adaptations, such as Disney's Peter Pan, he wears glasses and a long nightshirt and top hat carries an umbrella with him in Disneys Peter pan. When Peter Pan can't lead the Lost Boys, he acts as their leader. He is ten years old, and is fascinated by pirates. ,
Easy to do and it will be talked about for ever.
Ha!! I do this every year, add a walking stick and you are sorted!
