Flight Of The Navigator

Anybody watch this on BBC2 earlier?

I love this film. It has bags of charm. A great premise for a movie (I'm not a sci fi fan so not sure how original it was at the time).
I love the fact that it has everything from drama, comedy to genuinely scary moments (particularly if you put yourself in David's shoes), and takes you on a journey with him.
And MAX is the best thing in it :D

Anybody else like this movie?

I didn't know it was on tv. Weird thing is, i've been thinking about it lately.

Same here! I was thinking that it's hardly ever on TV and then checked the listings this morning and made my day :D

I don't have a blu ray player :( Is there a major difference in quality or is that a stupid question?

It's a classic. I tried to watch the football on the other channel but just kept flicking back. Gave up in the end and just watched the film.

The SFX of the ship were top notch.

It's enjoyable enough. The 80's fashion on his 'younger' brother are hilarious. What were we thinking back then?

I think the DVD was just a video transfer to DVD but the Blu Ray was a proper copy.

At then end in the boat I was expecting David to say to Jeff "We need to talk about your hair". :D

A lovely movie. I could watch it endlessly...

And, as we've seen so many awesome remakes, I'm really 'excited' about the remake out next year!

My favourite movie. And, serendipitously, I mentioned it (unawares of its showing today) in the Soundtrack thread last night....so hop over there for some of Alan Silvestri's music from the movie.

    I agree.
I don't see the need to remake it.

    "COMPLIANCE!"

It's a perfect movie. One of my all-time favourites. It has aged very well.

I would have watched it, but it's not been that long since I've seen it.

It looked fantastic then. No need to remake it just for a few computerised bells and whistles.

It must never be remade. All the charm and innocence would be stripped from it. No doubt some cretin producer or director would talk about making it "dark and gritty" and it will be a colossal mess. Just leave well enough alone.

All these comments scare me (as they're quite probably true).

Mind you, I can just pretend the remake never happened :)

My husband loves this, but I find it a little boring. The main kid is too smug and also Max is completely annoying when he starts to speak like a human (though no human I have ever heard!!)

I did like the bit at the 'gas station'. That was funny!!!

The sfx still stand up today (for me anyway). A remake would just ruin a simple story and bloat it with too much cgi.

If CGI is realistic enough, why not use it when needed?
