Is a BlackBerry that doesn't use BlackBerry's email service still a BlackBerry? Perhaps consumers may or may not want to ponder this dilemma.

If you are a Consumer with a BlackBerry 10 device it won't support the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). Instead, the devices will pick up their email directly, like any other smartphone, rather than rely on the BIS network. Ironically users of BlackBerry's business messaging service - BlackBerry Enterprise Server, or BES - are unaffected. Consumer accounts need to have a data plan and the email data usage will come out of that overall allowance. Not to mention data roaming costs if outside the country.

I dont get the bit about data. I was always under the impression that even with BIS/BES that any data consumed by that in email/BBM still came from your data allowance with that network. So if you roamed, you still had to pay.

The thing about BIS was that it tended to use less data than other smartphones, so whilst you'd still have to pay when roaming (depending on your network/tariff), it tended to be less than other handsets.
