Are terrestrial premieres still the ratings grabbers that they used to be?

I know not everyone can afford Sky, but I'd have thought DVD players are relatively ubiquitous now, and with the biggest films being released on DVD not long after they've been in the cinema..

Not even close. The days of movie premieres getting 16 million viewers are long gone. However, the big big movies still attract decent ratings, especially when hyped and shown at or near christmas.

    Some recent(ish) viewing figures:

    Batman Begins (4.87 million viewers)

    The Incredibles (5.57 million)

POTC: At World's End (6.41 million)

Shrek the Third (7.80 million viewers)

    Indiana Jones IV (7.91 million)

Batman Begins has been on regular rotation on the ITV channels for about 3 years now.

I think it first premiered on Channel 4 back in 2008 first. ITV must've obtained the rights later.

Just looked it up and the terrestrial premier was 6/12/09. I didn't think it had been anywhere near that long.

The Dark Knight must be due to air quite soon, probably by the end of the year.

Here in the Redditch, West Midlands, the signal keeps dropping well in my house anyway and then the arranged programs keep changing times ect. It nevr used to be like and when I was overseas in Thailand the server was excellent and a magazine that came with the package highlighted each channels program on time everytime.

Maybe there isn't a good signal here in Redditch but he servers say that we have a good coverage. I have Sanyo digibox and even that drops out sometimes. I don't want to buy expensive stuff and change the equipment and have the same problems

    Anyone got any answers,

Gosh, I remember how exciting it used to be to see BBC1 and ITV's 'new season' trailers in which they would show what films were going to premiered on Saturday/Sunday nights, usually during the Autumn and Spring months. Makes me feel really old!

Followed by a second showing the following weekend as this is what C4 seem to do now when they show a film premiere.

I used to like the Christmas tv announcements that always mentioned the main couple of movie premieres (before the days of sell-through videos)

Shocked to see this premiering on CH4 to be honest. It just goes to show how little the BBC are interested in showing the big Hollywood blockbusters. CH4 will probably cut it and stick adverts in right after the opening credits. They'll ruin it.

I think you are getting itv confused with c4. Sure c4 will have to air it with ad breaks... its a commercial tv channel... But they rarely (note the word 'rarely') cut films to bits. In fact, of the main channels they are the best at showing movies in their CORRECT RATIO and UNCUT.

ITV on the other hand... Well I really do not know why they even bother.

The BBC already has a contract with Disney... That must have cost them a few bob. Unfortunately, ITV have a contract with warner bros... I dread to think what they'll do when they show The Dark Knight... They'll probably put it throw the shredder.

Well BBC Might not have a contract with the film makers for this premier.
