  My tip would be to bet on a race that is less random. I never bet on the National.

  I have rotten luck of if I say I'm going to back it and then don't it usually does well
  
  (Just look at the names go for the best name I won some money in 2005 with this method)

  The Grand National really is a mugs game. All the top pundits disagree with each other on who is going to win.

  I normally only gamble once a year, and it makes the National much more exciting if I have something to root for. I don't put much on but I do spread it around a bit given the payout is 5 places, so I've backed each way

  Two for me:
  Chicago Grey
  Join Together
  
  This pair ticked the most boxes for me in terms of what I look for in a National horse, especially Chicago Grey. I'm a little worried about Join Together's relative inexperience but hopefully he'll run a big race.
  
  Also a very modest amount on Forpadytheplasterer at a big price. Will more than likely be outclassed but this horse has a lot of heart so you never know.

  I've picked mine purely on names. I have £2 each way on Treacle and BecauseIcouldn'tSee and £1 eachway on AlwaysWaining. £10 is always my limit and the GrandNational is the only time I ever place a bet.

  Got 2nd with Cappa Bleu and third with Teaforthree so happy with that. Really glad that all horses and jockeys have come back safe. Great race!
