xperia Z sim card not inserted ..help

Just got an xperia z phone and phone keeps stating
"sim card not inserted"
I reinsert the sim car and it states
"sim card inserted"
then it reboots itself and then states: "sim card Removed" and
reboots again?
There is no signal strength either

I contacted Orange and they had me repeat the above again
and said the phone will be activated in roughly 4 hours.
9 hours later and the phone is still the same?

I did a manual network search and the phone picks up
EE (Orange) O2 etc, but I sill cannot get the sim card
to connect?

I searched google for the xperia Z, CE 0682, but all I can
see is the xperia Z, CE 0682 with links to India, the phone is on
contract to Orange UK and I got it via
buymobilephones.co.uk

Does anyone know how to sort this or has had the same
experience?

Thanks to all

I dont have a phone that this sim card fits, I doubt if the sim
has been activated as it is not registering in the phone.
Wifes iphone 5 sim is smaller than the xperia sim,
I will see if my daughters Iphone 4S sim fits when i see her
    tomorrow.

I did a factory reset and it`s still the same "insert sim card"
I am wondering if this has been a faulty return as the xperia
box was not sealed when it arrive via courier from Buy mobile
    phones?

I think I will need to take it to an Orange shop in the city-
center, defo looks like something is wrong with the handset?

    Thanks

It will fit the Xperia its a micro sim as well.
I found it a bit fiddly to get the sim into the xperia tbh not as easy as some other phones.
If that don't work either the orange store should tell you one way or the other.

My partner's Xperia P will only take certain microsims and not cut down ones - eventually ported after several failed attempts to get one off Three. Sony phones do seem a little more fussy with sims than other brands.
