LCD LED or Plasma for new 3D TV?

Looking to buy a new large screen (60" hopefully) 3D HD TV to replace my current rear projection one soon.
It seems a similar spec Samsung LED model is a lot more expensive than the Plasma version, read that LED is better in a lit room and Plasma needs to be viewed in a darkened room, is that right? Not sure where LCD models fit into this?
If that is the only real difference between Plasma and LED I'll go for the much cheaper Plasma model I think as I'll mostly use it for home cinema in a darkened room anyway.
What sort of life expectancy is better, Plasma LED or LCD or is there no real difference?
Any other points I should consider?
Models I'm provisionally thinking on just now are for Plasma

Or LED that is much more expensive

Wont be using it for gaming, have a dedicated Sony 3D Blu ray player already and also Sky HD box.

As for which is better between LED and Plasma. Imo, Plasma looks better with films and fast moving objects look smoother.
LED
dependant on budget,
LG, Panasonic are very good.
Samsung is next
Best is Sony
If ur rich look into holding off for OLED
Thanks, my Sister has an LG LCD 42" and I was not happy with its PQ to be honest, my 7 year old Sony 50" rear projection HD is much better PQ IMHO.
Thinking seriously about Plasma now, looking at that Currys link you provided I see two Samsung 60" Plasma models, the ... SAMSUNG PS60E550 Full HD 60" Plasma 3D TV at £1209.00 and SAMSUNG PS60E6500 Full HD 60" Plasma 3D TV at £1598.98 and the only difference between the two I can see is Motion rate for the former is 400Hz and 600Hz for the latter.
What sort of difference would that extra 200Hz on the more expensive model mean for me given that I want to get into 3D Blu Ray and will mostly use the TV for home cinema Blu Ray (some 3D) viewing with occasional TV on Sky, do like Motorcycle racing in the summer if that is any concern.
Thanks for your input.
Edit I see the cheaper model is Ethernet only and the more expensive one has wi fi, not a worry there, don't mind an Ethernet cable running to it
Thanks, why is LED at the top? I know they are slimmer TV's, but any other reason? I need to buy fairly soon (next couple of months at most) so cant hold out for OLED, dont even know what that is apart from its sounds expensive
Been doing a little research on the side since posting here and am starting to lean towards Plasma now and a Samsung model.
Cheers.
here's a link to explain refresh rates.

I too watch motor sports (moto GP, BSB, WSB and the F1) but find that fast moving objects tend to cause a slight blurring on screen and i'm sure that's where the high refresh rate comes into play, to try to stop it happening (i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong) and of course you'll also have motion flow control which seems to work better on Plasma.
Please let us know which TV you chose and don't hesitate to come back and ask for advice if you need it.

Ian
I was so close to dropping in to Curry's Yesterday for a new 60" Plasma 3D TV.
My heart says yes, my brain says no.
I do love my home cinema, and we only live once.
Decisions.... decisions.
But yep, I want this stuff so much.
I find a plasma set gives a much better picture, not as bright and gaudy as LED. I cannot fault my new set. I does everything I expect of it.
I can only go off experience. My old set did suffer from image retention to some extent and had developed a red bloom that showed when watching a movie with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. But that was not enough to put off my son as the set is now gracing his lounge.
