claiming jsa after leaving job voluntarily
I am asking this on behalf of a mate.
I know if you leave your job voluntarilly the job centre can suspend your benefit for up to 26 if you dont show good cause etc etc and only pay you hardship etc.
However is the time limit invovled if you have left your previous job sometime ago, say 6 months?. So they cant take leaving that job in to account and sanction you.
Anyone who works for DWP or anyone who knows this then your help would be appreciated

And yes i think they would.
i cant quite remember wot the time limit is
Dont think so
my sister voluntarily left to cut a long story short they said she had to wait for a set time(cant remember) then she could sign on
I took voluntary six months back and expected to wait, but had no problem and signed on straight away, it surprised me too
Yes it is very different.
sounds to me like someone simply left their job,i did that before and got £10 a week to live on off the dole for 2 or 3 months.
I can tell you for a fact, they begin the sanction from your date of claim.
Some people don't like claiming and other people don't require to do so I guess.
Correct. They will sanction you for upto Six months. you can appeal but if you left because you dislked the job or some other petty reason you're stuffed.
I left voly once because of a "conflict of Character"....in other words my employers wre alcoholics and known to the job centre. They made it very difficult to maintain staff.
I got immediate pay out, but that was a LONG time ago.
But if you spun some balls like walking out because you were being bullied at work or something, you'd probably get around it. - Not that it matters in this example.
I will get exact ruling on this from DWP.
I left voluntarily last month but my notice only finished on Friday. I was already informed by other people that I need to wait 6 months, but I'm one of these people who doesn't want to sign on etc.
Anyways, I popped into our council about the Council Tax payments etc, and they advised me to go to the Jobcentre and put a claim in - stating I need to keep up my Tax Credits and N.I as well which appartently are essential to keep up.
Anyways, just gone trough a lengthy 40 mins phonecall, and the person said it sounds like I may be entitled to JSA or Contribution based but need to pop in on Friday to discuss further.
I'm not really too bothered about it, as I am ok to about end of April anyways and I knew what I was doing and getting into.
Will try and let you know on Friday what they say.
I left though because I moved teams in the company and the new role wasn't best suited to me.
So I think it may be best that you enquire anyways for the N.I credits or whatever
it`s from when you left your job, not when you claim.
As in quitting the job?
