One of the most recent ones in Michael Fassbender in Shame last year, I thought he was great and totally deserved to win, yet he didn't even get a nomination

I think Jean Dujardin throughly deserved his oscar for his performance in The Artist, it was a very challenging role. However I do think it is a great shame that Fassbender was not nominated. Personally I would have shortlisted him over George Clooney.

Jim Carrey not getting a nomination was an absolute travesty, similar to this years snub for Ben Affleck's directing of Argo. I believe that in that year, Carrey won the Best Actor Golden Globe, but didn't even get a nomination for an Oscar - and he was brilliant too, and I don't even like Jim Carrey.
Barbara Streisand I highlighted, not so much for Yentl (another travesty,) but for her not getting a nomination for directing The Prince of Tides. The film was nominated in practically every other category, and even Billy Crystal made a little joke about the snub during his opening number of the ceremony that year, saying..."did this film direct itself?!"
Naomi Watts - Mulholland Drive
Keira Knightley - Atonement, The Duchess
Sienna Miller - Factory Girl
Marilyn Monroe - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Thora Birch - Ghost World, American Beauty
Sally Hawkins - Happy Go Lucky
Lesley Mansville - Another Day

Sean Connery in The Offense

Wes Bentley in American Beauty
yes, he was nominated, lost out to Tim Robbins for Mystic River (which to be fair was an outstanding performance).
Kevin Bacon for The Woodsmen, really a wonderful performance, but the topic matter probably nixed much in the way of award recognition.
Henry Fonda - Once Upon a Time in the West
Michael Douglas - Falling Down
Val Kilmer - The Doors or Tombstone.
Douglas and Kilmer wouldn't have been nominated because the films were either controversial or average, but they were superb performances imo.

Thandie Newton - Crash
Olivia Coleman - Tyrannosaur (she left me speechless, in my eyes she was Best Actress of last year's oscars)
Keira Knightley - Atonement, The Duchess
Sienna Miller - Factory Girl
Marilyn Monroe - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Thora Birch - Ghost World, American Beauty
Sally Hawkins - Happy Go Lucky
Lesley Mansville - Another Day
Adam Sandler - too many to note in a small post
Arnie - pretty well everything.
Seagal - Under Siege
Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Carribean
Harrison Ford for Raiders
these are such iconic characters , why do they never get recognised ?
Was nominated for the first Pirates film.
