Its not yet official, but listen to this video i just recorded from the Dean Sullivan show (Dean played Jimmy Corkhill for 18 years in Brookside) this is recorded from citytalk.fm 105.9 on the 3/12/08.
He said this:

Would you class this as proof? i do think he sounded serious, and why would he tell thousands of listeners if it was false?
maybe it is to do with our Brookside dvd campaign maybe???
let you know more ASAP.

I was thinking that maybe Phil Redmond is going to get them on the cheap for a 2nd time, as he did back in 1982. And will possibly put it out to some tv company. as all the houses go up for auction for only half a million on the 17th. well thats all we know up to know. coz i have a few good contacts with doing the campaign i will try to find out anymore and post it. but i know c4 wouldnt have it. no chance. it would be some other channel i would think.
I wonder who will return to the show if it does make a comeback.
i do know i wouldnt be able to let go of something i have worked on for 18 years, its a big part of your life and i think its a good thing to talk about it. But i would love to see Jimmy back in it for me! but i also loved the Dixons and barry grant!
Micheal Stark is out of a job now tho isnt he after being released from corrie lol :S......
But then Phil is also to blame himself. The cast had become too stale and the Gordan's were a disaster for them. They should have cleared out 60% of the cast and brought in new. Corrie and EE did this and recovered after their bad periods. There was no reason why Brookie wouldn't have also.
Me too, me too.
I'd imagine a huge proportion of the show's stalwarts would love to come back, I imagine they're leading very normal lives now. But as everyone left the Close in the last ep then they may start over.
Personally I think this is all too good to be true, I won't let myself get excited yet. Think it's perhaps more to do with a DVD release or repeats (which would be very welcome).
Regards
5.30 - Neighbours
6pm - Home and Away
6.30 - Hollyoaks
7pm - Emmerdale
7.30 - EastEnders/Emmerdale/Coronation Street
8pm - EastEnders/Coronation Street/The Bill/Holby City
If any channel was to bring back Brookside in a decent weekday slot it would HAVE to clash with an existing soap. The soap schedules are very full already, with EastEnders and Emmerdale already clashing on Tuesdays.
It would be a very brave decision for any channel to put a new version of Brookside up against an existing soap, and very risky. Too risky in my opinion.
9pm, after the second Corrie episodes.
That would be out of the traditional early evening primetime slot, and into the post-watershed slot. This would mean Brookside would not be able to attract the 'family' viewing ratings, and it would mean the soap competing with some of TV's BIGGEST shows on all channels - it would be going up against shows like Life on Mars, Big Brother, Spooks, Trial & Retribution, Touch of Frost, Taggart, Silent Wintess...
I thought the whole reason that brookside died in the first place was because it was taken out of the traditional soaptime slot.
Corrie's 8:30 timeslot isn't early evening.
Plus Brookside would have the advantage of lots of publicity, the press are likely to be all over the return of one of the UK's best loved shows. This would allow it to establish a firm audience.
9:00pm would allow it to be more edgy than the other soaps imo.
It's either that or put it up against Holby and the Bill, which are bigger shows in terms of ratings than most 9pm shows these days.
Or maybe it could air on the weekend.
I have one word that should serve as a warning to anyone considering this:
CROSSROADS!
Soap returns never quite work the way they are supposed to.
They would also have the advantage of the time shifted channel repeats on E4 and the 4oD Internet Player. This would allow the series to reach a wider audience. This will become more important in the future.
However, I think that any return will either be repeats or occasional DVDs.
yes that one didnt, but it did try. and who says all soap returns would end the same?
Brookie could come back and be the top god once again, im just shouting out an example. And Crossroads also got dvd releases.
