Thank you! I thought I was the only one that thought that was a bit weird. It seemed really shoehorned in - I realise that we don't know that much about Des, but with Calvin marrying his girlfriend's sister, surely this racist streak would have glimmered someewhere before...
I dont remember seeing that, but from what was said it was something racist? I remember a while ago, Des said something to Gaz about his father which made Gaz scared, we all know that Gaz is racist, so maybe his father is aswell. Could be that both Des and Gaz's father are in some racist group.
It needs to be something, Gaz's father was mentioned ages and and now this and Des has yet to have a storyline away from Jacqui.

Completly out of character. He has never shown any racist tendencies before, in fact he has always come across as a fair and open minded person to me. I think this is bad character writing.
I predicted that Des was going to be a racist and have something to do with Zak at the wedding when the FlashForward was shown. I'm sad that this will ruin Des and Jacqui, but at the same time I also feel quite smug and excited that I was right:o.
Although, as I said at the time, there are inconsistencies (he's probably spent a lot of time with Calvin for example, given the family dynamics) and I can't see any of the Mcqueen women bar perhaps Mercedes going along with it.
If they're going down this road I hope they do make it a secret BNP (not called the BNP as they probably wouldn't be allowed, but something that obviously is the BNP) professional storyline. It would be topical and also raise some questions regarding people who are good at their job but secret racists.
