Lazy Movie Writers Makes for Pointless Viewing

First it was Cloverfield and now I just watched The Strangers.

2 movies with an interesting premise ruined by the writers deciding that as they can't think of a decent ending they wil just cut the film off 10 minutes early.

Both these movies left me wondering why I bothered.
The Strangers was based on true events so there's no excuse on that one

I expect there are lots more examples

Leaving the ending ripe for a sequel is one thing but this is sheer laziness

"Based on true events" is code for complete BS spuriously dressed up as cinema verite.

I don't know what you mean by cut the film off:confused:

I really enjoyed Cloverfield. I knew what sort of film it was going to be when i watched it, and that sort of film usually gets a sequel, and enjoyed the ending (and the ending)
The Strangers is a remake of 'ils' (Them) so it's bad form to blame the writers and at the end of the film there's a message saying:
5 days after the events, the bodioes of Clementine SAUVEUR and Lucas MEDVEC were found by the police
After many weeks of investigation, the murderers were arrested in the region of Snagov. Their were aged between 10 and 15 years.
At their first questionning, the youngest declared: "They did not want to play with us"
So, what exactly is your gripe?
