Its a tv show for adults. The reason it has sex scenes is to make that explicit - the number of people who try and make things aimed at adults 'okay for kids' - it ruined the last few Harry Potter films by reducing the violence and dark elements. (okay, HP was young adult but still)

LOL imagine Harry Potter with sex scenes. :D

Most of the sex scenes are fairly quick..so I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't damage the pace of the story and the show.

The only time I thought it was really gratuitous and damaging to the pace of the show was the Baelish and the lesbians scene..

....which just went on and on for a stupid amount of time. It's rare that a lesbian scene would bore me :D...but this dragged on so long it just made me think "we get it..you're women having sex with each other..next".

Wasn't that mainly them being taught how to please a man as opposed to just having sex?

The scenes don't bother me too much. Apart from when Joffrey had 1 girl torture the other, that was a bit much even for me to stomach.

I wouldn't mind if it was Hermione. I'd like her to give some guy a Hufflepuff. Then for him to Slytherin to her Gryffindor, & Expelliarmus!

    To paraphrase Jimmy Carr

When I see sex on Games of Thrones or any other tv show, I tell you, it makes me so angry, I sit on the end of my bed and shake my fist at it.

Err... are you that 14 yo online gamer that's been mentioned? :D:D:D

There is no porn in Game of Thrones, nudity and sex on the other hand is there in abundance.

The human body is not obscene, time to grow up and get over it.

Game of thrones is excellent but is the amount of porn in it really nessecery?

I asked friends in work the day if they watch it and they basically made me feel like a pervert.
If the show was made PG everyone could watch it without feeling ashamed.

Despite there being no porn in Game of Thrones, the programme is not for children. If you don't like it, then bugger off and watch something else. Perhaps something on CBeebies would be more apt for someone afflicted with your sense of over sensitivity.

I wouldn't be ashamed to watch this with my family if they enjoyed the show, it's not actually porn after all. Maybe you need to start watching less adult shows OP, I hear the Cartoon Network is re-branding all the old shows these days.

    This.

Porn? No there isn't any porn whatsoever in GOT. Nudity and the occasional (simulated) sex scene? Yep, plenty of them. I don't think it detracts from the overall plot of the series though and they aren't just thrown in as filler, like they are with shows like Spartacus. It's like the writers on that show think to themselves "we haven't seen a breast or a penis in 15 minutes, we're going to lose the audience's interest if we don't put a whole room full of tits and cocks in immediately."

I think it's true that some of sex and nudity is gratuitous especially when used as a backdrop to exposition but I think the show reduced the number of them last season and the season 3 premiere featuring only a short scene of nudity. I have a feeling that HBO wanted more sex to draw in an audience when it launched and it's clear now that that side is not needed so much. They also need more running time just to move the plot along.

I agree. The Hunger Games is another movie that would have been so much better if it had shown the true brutality of battle.

I am so sick of everything needing to be sanitised in order to be 'family-friendly'. In the past decade, the number of movies that have reached the US box office top 10 which are rated R has plummeted by a whopping 30%. Cinema is moving towards a place where everything must be oriented around children. I don't want television to follow suit.

The problem is with society's attitude towards sex and nudity not with the sex and nudity.

Sex is a big factor within the books, and should be within the show too. Essentially, sex in the books and the show is used to make the characters feel more real to the audience, because sex is considered one of the two biggest driving factors of our existence (the other being death). It may look unnecessary but usually the sex scenes do have a point in terms of characterization but people continue to use it blindly to attack the show.

As others have said too, there's huge amounts of violence in the show at times- brutal and slow decapitations, soldiers being cut in half, crowns of molten gold...that's just from the top of my head. Everyone seems to be fine about the violence and gore for some reason however...

I admit I winced a bit at that scene :o Reminds me I still havent finished S1 yet - sometimes I'm finding the series a bit heavy, but its good :)

It's just sex. It isn't bestiality or anything else really dodgy. It isn't all that explicit. No full frontal male nudity that I remember (unlike Spartacus : - now there is a show I wouldn't watch with family :D ) Some bits are done better than others and most of it isn't at all titivating. Just people bumping uglies :D

I'm pretty sure you see Hodor's cock in one episode haha.

Tbh I was a bit disappointed by ther lack of sex in episode 1 of season 3.

I mean there was that one scene with Bronn and the **** but he got called away just as he was about to rip her panties off. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Here's hoping we get to see a bit more action in the rest of the series! :)

The only problem with doing that, would be that it would no longer be Game of Thrones. It would be more like a serialised version of The Princess Bride! :D

I actually thought that was a good scene. We learned a lot about Baelish's character n that scene. Not only the story he told, but his instructions to the **** showed how he understood the human psyche and how to manipulate people, plus his personal indifference to the scene going o before him showed us how he viewed the whole sordid affair.

He's a master manipulator and sex is a tool for him, rather than a vice. The story he tells at the same time explains the back story as to why he is like this,

This is why I don't have an issue with the sex in GoT. It is a device of the story. Even with things like Theon's random shagging of every woman he meets tells us all we need to know about his character. Though watching him finger his own sister was a bit creepy (but again, fitted his character that his mind went there first, before considering who she might be)

I actually can't think of one single "pointless" sex scene, all of them can be rationalised and put into the context of the ongoing story. ON the face of it even this week with Bronn and the pro and her panties, later he goes onto discuss with Tyrion that he is enjoying the finer things in life and wants a pay rise, thus putting the scene beforehand into some context. People like to find things to complain about, rather than just watching and enjoying TV in the form it takes, it is escapism and nothing more, if you don't like or can't use your tiny little brain to try and work out why they put such activity in read the books, then you don't have to even read the page, but be warned there are ALOT of pages!!!

Yes, it's their vision and they should feel free to do whatever they want (as long as the actors are cool with it). If you're unhappy stop watching.

If they made you feel like a pervert you weren't fighting your corner well enough.

If the shows was made be PG, they wouldn't be adapting the books very closely. Swearing, violence and sex all appear in the books.

Only on DS can you find such an OP. Even the comments in the article on the main site are completely bizarre.

I agree that the sex scenes are part of the story and the shows not intended for family viewing.Yes,there's scenes containing simulated sex(not porn!)and nudity,as well as violence, but we're dealing with morally ambiguous and in some cases corrupt people and the relationships between them.

It's a bit of a complicated issue, but I would summarize as:

HBO exists as a broadcaster dedicated to showing 'adult' programming which aims to reflect some of the darker elements of life - whether through comedy or drama. It has a large subscription base that want to watch programmes on this basis (ie, with the sex, violence and bad language left in).

Game of thrones was bought and produced by HBO specifically so that the final version could accurately reflect the books. And many of the people that watch the show like it on the basis that it does contain these 'real' elements. It would seem absurd that just because the show has now reached a wider audience that it should change to accommodate them. I know that this kind of thing happens all the time in commercial industries however not for HBO programmes.

If you want the show to be Merlin why not just watch Merlin?

I think the only reason they do it is because it's cheap to film.

The TV show doesn't reflect the books, they miss out too much of the story and replace it with pointless sexy time.
