So I was surfing the web on my Macbook Pro, as I do every morning, when a virus warning message popped up. I got a fright and nearly fell off my chair  Anyway it turned out a Windows virus had somehow snuck its way into my Mac. It must have been looking for my Windows partition but it ended up on the wrong OS I told it to move along, there's nothing to see here Of course my dad was gloating as I'm always saying Macs don't get viruses! I think I should run a virus check on my Windows partition just to be on the safe side.

Bet the OP gets a virus on there pc before i do
Also this is for you cnbcwatcher
in reality, these days a virus (in the technical sense) is a very rare thing on any platform. it's mostly malware now.
A website. Can't remember which one though. It just popped out of nowhere, sprung up like a fungus.
I have a Mac, not a PC. A Windows partition does not count as it's still running on Apple hardware
 You have a PC ...
and yours will still get infected before mine does
PC = "personal computer". You have a Apple-branded Personal Computer. Deal with it
Technically there is also no such thing as Apple Hardware since none of it is actually made by them.
sounds like just a web pop-up then, and not an actual virus infection notification.
it's not immune to everything, but it is inherently more secure that what windows used to be (UAC has plugged some of those holes) in the same way that linux/unix is inherently more secure than what windows used to be.
i've never ran any AV software on my macs and have never had anything try to install itself or do anything untoward.
on my windows partition (via bootcamp and vmware) i run the bare bones MSA and that is enough to keep everything fine also.
more malware issues these days really are down to people installing things they shouldn't or clicking things they haven't read properly.
No, I have a Mac. I only use my Windows partition for games and there are hardly OSX viruses around so I'm not gonna get infected again. I will have to run a virus check on my Windows partition at some point though.
Why would I do that? I hate Windows 8/8.1.
Yep. My W7 partition is completely separate from my OSX partition.
No, you have a PC. A Personal Computer which a mac is..
The only difference is the OS used. Component wise, they are almost identical.
You can but you're not really supposed to. What puzzles me is that it's perfectly legal and acceptable to run Windows on a Mac but not to run OSX on a PC
It's childish either on Microsoft's part, or Apple's.
it's all in the differences of the license you agree to.
How would MS stop you installing OS X on a machine?
Don't think I have ever bought a PC made by them
indeed, the windows business is essentially to get it installed on as many system as possible - limiting it would be crazy.
apples business is slightly different, they created OSX to run on their systems and don't sell OSX as product to anyone else. their business model is not to get OSX running on as many systems at possible, but as a tool to sell their hardware.
