.....or they could just feature in a flashback showing the John Hurt's Doctor destroying them in the Time War, as suggested by the trailer.

Some people may not appreciate the title as it does contain spoilers.
    Anyway:
It's very interesting indeed that there is Circular Gallifreyan writing behind the Daleks in a couple of pictures shown here: http://www.doctorwhonews.net/

Time War flashback? A return to a war torn Gallifrey?
Also good to see that the they seem to have more or less abandoned the rubbish New Paradigm Daleks.

    Yup - this isn't a spoiler, it's all over the press - here's the BBC website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23398212

... then they must live in a very insular world. It would be practically impossible for most people to avoid the news that the Daleks will be in the 50th.

They shouldn't be on the Internet. Official news cannot be classed as a spoiler. It's a nonsense argument which comes back again and again.

You should not put yourself in a position to learn official details if you do not want to know a single thing about the anniversary. No googling Doctor Who. No entertainment news sites. No newspapers. No gossip with friends.

Basically, you have to find a cave and live in it. I'm sure somebody made a big fuss over having Tennant's return "spoiled" for them. It was silly. The BBC release what they want us to know (and now and again, what they don't want us to know, too :p)

This is not information leaked by fans. It is not information leaked by the 50th anniversary trailer. It is not from unknown sources on the production team. It's from the BBC. It's plastered on their website. It's plastered on major news outlets. It. Is. Not. A. Spoiler.

    Rant over.

    Trailer?

If a trailer had aired, surely there would be a lot of discussion on here?

There is a trailer, but we don't get to see it yet.
...not sure how the OP knows anything about it though...

Then what the hell are you doing on a Doctor Who message board, reading a thread that contains important story information??
    Sheeshhh...

    Exactly!!
And anyway, it's the BIg Doctor Who Anniversary Special - I'd say that even without the official news, it's 99% certain that Daleks would be in it. So there's no point acting all surprised, and pretending that people are 'spoiling' anything...

    Indeed.
Including this piece of information as the Daleks are in said trailer :p

As far as the spoiler thing goes, I've had a big issue with people putting Spoilers in thread titles over the years but on this occasion, it was the BBC who announced that info themselves. I read it on two newspaper websites and it was on BBC Teletext this morning as well.

There's a world of difference between posting something the BBC announces and the real spoilers, for example, if someone posted how The Doctor is going Regenerate at Xmas. Now that would make me mad.

Anyway, back on topic and I think it's great the Daleks are back. It's appropriate as it's their 50th Anniversary as well in December so it's entirely appropriate they should be in the Special.

    :)

There was a trailer shown at Comic Con which shows
what looks like the Time War, with Daleks exploding and everything burning, just like the pictures that have been released. John Hurt's Doctor is in the middle of it all and says something like “Great men are forged in fire, I'm the man who lit the flames".
So, as I was saying in my original post, the Daleks may not have a starring role, they may be merely used in a flashback, setting up Hurt's back-story.

The term 'spoiler' has absolutely nothing to do with who the source of the information is.

It has to do with the extent by which the knowledge granted affects the surprise developments of the plot.

Knowing the Daleks are featured doesn't affect the key hinges on which the plot swings. Being told the lead-in for a joke doesn't spoil it in the way getting the punchline does. However, there are some people who would prefer not to hear the joke at all - there should be a better word for it than 'spoilers'.

The BBC is unlikely to release any information that gives away how the Doctor defeats the Daleks, or any new discoveries made during the course of the adventure. They do, however, know what will grab the viewer's attention.

    And they're on Gallifrey !!!
(Look in the background at the Timelord symbols.)
Guess that confirms some of the Hurt Doctor's scenes will be there... :D

How have they ditched the wonderful new paradigm Daleks? If this really is from the time war, obviously the new paradigm Daleks won't be there.

This tells us pretty much naff all. The Daleks were always going to be featured. It'll probably end up being the same sort of cameo as the Cybermen had in AGMGTW - although to be honest, I do think they should be quite prominent in the story. They're only a story younger than the Doctor after all :D
